Polygold Company Limited - Drilling Operator Vacancy

Polygold Company Limited is seeking a skilled and experienced Drilling Operator to join our team at the Mining Site in Musoma, Mara Region, Tanzania. This is a Full-Time position reporting to the Drilling Supervisor.

Job Purpose

The Drilling Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating drilling equipment to achieve planned production targets in both open pit and underground mining operations, while complying with company policies, Mine Health and Safety regulations, and environmental standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Operate drilling rigs and associated equipment in open cast and/or underground mining operations in accordance with approved drilling plans.
• Accurately drill blast holes to specified depths, angles, and patterns as per mine design and supervisor instructions.
• Conduct daily pre-start inspections and routine maintenance checks of drilling equipment to ensure safe operation.
• Identify and report mechanical defects, abnormal equipment behavior, or safety hazards to the supervisor or maintenance team.
• Maintain proper drilling records, including drilled meters, hole depth, and operational logs.
• Follow all safety procedures, including use of PPE, lock-out/tag-out procedures, and hazard identification protocols.
• Work closely with blasting, geology, and mining teams to ensure drilling accuracy and efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with Mine Health and Safety Regulations, company SOPs, and environmental requirements.
• Maintain good housekeeping standards at drilling sites and equipment areas.
• Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training programs as required.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor within the scope of the role.

Qualifications and Experience

• Certificate or Diploma in Drilling Operations, Mining, Mechanical Engineering, or any related field from a recognized institution.
• Minimum of 3–5 years’ proven experience as a Drilling Operator in a mining environment (gold mining preferred).
• Experience operating drilling rigs for open pit and/or underground mining.
• A valid operator license/certification for drilling equipment is an added advantage.
• Knowledge of drilling patterns, blast hole specifications, and basic geology is an advantage.

Skills and Competencies

• Strong understanding of mine safety standards and safe operating procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret drilling plans and instructions.
• Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work long shifts, including night shifts, in a mining site environment.
• Physically fit and able to work under demanding site conditions.
