Job Title: Environmental Engineer
Location: Mining Site – Musoma, Mara Region, Tanzania

Job Purpose
To ensure Polygold Company Limited’s mining operations (both open-pit and underground) comply fully with the requirements of the National Environment Management Council (NEMC), Mining commission, Environmental Management Act (Cap. 191), Mining Act (Cap. 123), and all other applicable environmental laws, regulations, licenses, and permits. The Environment Engineer will oversee implementation of approved Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMP), environmental monitoring programs, and statutory reporting obligations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Regulatory Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure full compliance with conditions attached to EIA Certificates issued by NEMC and mining licenses issued by the Mining Commission.
- Prepare, submit, and follow up on statutory environmental reports, including:
- Quarterly and annual environmental performance reports
- Environmental monitoring reports
- Mine rehabilitation and closure progress reports
- Coordinate inspections and audits by NEMC, Mining Commission, and other regulatory authorities.
- Maintain up-to-date environmental permits, approvals, and compliance registers.
2. Environmental Management & Monitoring
- Implement and continuously improve the approved ESMP for open-cast and underground mining operations.
- Monitor air quality, water quality, effluent discharge, waste management, noise, vibration, and dust levels in line with regulatory limits.
- Oversee tailings, waste rock dumps, hazardous waste handling, and chemical storage in compliance with national standards.
- Supervise environmental sampling, laboratory analysis, and data interpretation.
3. Risk Management & Incident Control
- Identify environmental risks and ensure mitigation measures are implemented and effective.
- Investigate environmental incidents, non-compliances, and community complaints; prepare incident reports and corrective action plans.
- Ensure emergency preparedness and response plans for environmental incidents (e.g., spills, contamination).
4. Rehabilitation, Closure & Sustainability
- Develop and implement progressive mine rehabilitation programs in line with Mining Commission requirements.
- Participate in mine closure planning, land reclamation, and post-mining land-use planning.
- Monitor rehabilitation success and prepare reports for regulatory submission.
5. Stakeholder & Community Engagement
- Liaise with local communities, government authorities, and internal stakeholders on environmental matters.
- Support grievance handling mechanisms related to environmental concerns.
- Support Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) and environmental awareness initiatives where applicable.
6. Training & Systems
- Conduct environmental induction and refresher training for employees and contractors.
- Support implementation and maintenance of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems (where applicable).
- Promote environmental best practices and continuous improvement across operations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Mining Engineering (Environmental option), or related discipline from a recognized institution/university.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in environmental management within the mining industry.
- Sound knowledge of:
- Environmental Management Act
- Mining Act and Regulations
- EIA and ESMP implementation requirements
- Professional registration with NEMC as an Environmental Expert (EIA and Auditing) and/or other relevant professional bodies is an added advantage.

- Site-based, full-time role at Musoma–Mara mining operations
- Field-based work in open-pits and underground mines
- Requires readiness for regulatory inspections and audits
