Job Purpose
The Senior Geologist will be responsible for leading and managing all geological functions in alignment with mining legislation, regulatory requirements, and international best practices for gold mining. This role is crucial for ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant open-pit and underground operations through accurate resource and reserve definition, effective grade control, exploration management, and statutory geological reporting. The Senior Geologist will develop and refine integrated geological, structural, and mineral system models using multi-scale, multi-disciplinary datasets to enhance the understanding of gold mineralization and improve targeting effectiveness. A key leadership role in target generation, evaluation, and advancement is expected. The position involves planning and executing exploration and evaluation programs to test geological interpretations and mineral system models safely, sustainably, and cost-effectively, while adhering to safety, environmental, and governance standards and approved budgets.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead geological operations for both open pit and underground gold mining activities.
- Oversee geological mapping, sampling, drilling, core logging, assay QA/QC, and data validation.
- Manage grade control systems to optimize gold recovery, minimize dilution, and control ore losses.
- Develop, update, and maintain geological and structural models, block models, and gold resource estimates.
- Provide geological input to mine planning, production scheduling, and monthly reconciliation processes.
- Plan and supervise exploration programs aimed at extending mine life and increasing gold resources.
- Ensure proper management and security of core samples, assay results, and geological databases.
- Collaborate closely with mining, survey, processing, and HSE teams to support production targets.
- Supervise, coach, and build capacity of junior geologists, technicians, and field assistants.
- Promote safe work practices and ensure compliance with site HSE standards.
- Ensure full compliance with the Mining Act, Tanzania Mining Commission (TMC) regulations, Geological Survey of Tanzania (GST) requirements, and all other applicable laws and regulatory frameworks.
- Prepare, review, and submit all statutory geological, exploration, and technical reports to the relevant regulatory authorities as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree or Master of Science in Geology, Applied Geology, or Earth Sciences from a recognized institution/University.
- Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in gold mining operations, including both open pit and underground environments.
- Proven experience in ore control, gold resource estimation, and exploration geology.
- Practical knowledge of Tanzania mining laws, Mining Commission reporting requirements, and compliance procedures.
- Experience with geological modelling, grade control, and mine reconciliation.
- Advanced working knowledge of, and experience with, GIS and other exploration software packages applicable for the role.
- Professional registration with a recognized geological body is an added advantage.

- Strong knowledge of mining compliance, statutory reporting, and audits.
- Ability to work effectively in a site-based, remote mining environment.

- Excellent report writing and communication skills.
- Strong safety awareness and commitment to responsible mining practices.
Working Conditions
- Full-time, site-based position at the Polygold mining site in Musoma, Mara Region.
- The role requires working in both open cast and underground environments.
- Rotation or site roster will be as per company policy.
