Job Title: Anesthetist

Reports To: HOD Health and Safety
Responds to the anesthetic needs of patients and coordinates their care with other perioperative personnel during the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases. Administers anesthesia services to patients for medical and surgical procedures relevant to the facility under the medical direction of staff anesthesiologist. Responds to the emergent airway management within the facility as needed. May be on-call, either in-house or from home, as required by the facility.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities
This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor or head of department.
Working Conditions

2. Perform thorough and complete pre-anesthesia assessments and develops appropriate anesthesia plans.
3. Administer anesthesia in accordance with clinical privileges, including induction, maintenanceand emergence.
4. Select, obtain and administer anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs and fluids necessary to manage the anesthetic, to maintain the patient`s physiologic homeostasis, and to correct abnormal responses to the anesthesia or surgery
5. Monitor, interpret and evaluate on going data as appropriate for the type of anesthetic and specific patient needs.
6. Provide expertise in airway management both in and out of the surgical suite
7. Place and maintain epidural catheters as adjuncts to anesthesia.
8. Place and monitor arterial and central venous catheters including pulmonary artery catheters.
9. Document pertinent information on the patient`s medical record.
10. Respond to emergency situations by providing airway management, administration of emergency fluids or drugs, or using basic or advanced cardiac life support techniques. 11. Act as investigators, collaborators, consultants, or assistants on research projects as needed.
12. May provide clinical and didactic instruction to helping staff available with emphasis on the patient on site or hospital,
13. May serve on a variety of institutional committees and participate as instructors in staff development and continuing education programs for both professional and non-professional staff members.
14. Other duties as directed by the Head of medical department.
Advanced diploma in anesthesia or above.
Minimum of one year experience in preferred will count residency experience.
1. Effective interpersonal skills necessary to foster productive working relationships.
2. Effective oral and written communication skills.
3. Thorough depth knowledge of pharmacology with emphasis on anesthetic, cardiac and vasoactive drugs.
4. Thorough knowledge of anesthetic equipment.
5. Expertise in the placement of invasive monitoring devices including arterial, central venous and pulmonary artery catheters.
6. Ability to move, manipulate, and safely operate anesthesia equipment during the administration of all types of anesthesia to all sizes of patients
7. Ability to adapt to work environment changes.
8. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
9. Ability to adjust work schedule to meet varying demands.
10. Must be able to communicate effectively in English.
