YWCA of Tanzania is a nonprofit, volunteer-led organization dedicated to empowering women and girls to achieve justice, peace, gender equality, good governance, health and environmental care. We address community needs through relevant programs, focusing on girls, young women, and women. YWCA Tanzania is part of the global YWCA movement in over 125 countries, founded in 1855 and formally established in 1894. YWCA is the world’s oldest women’s movement. In Tanzania, YWCA was founded in 1959 and registered as a national organization in 1969 with its headquarters in Dar es Salaam. Currently, YWCA Tanzania has 20 operating branches and three groups across the country.

Job Title: Caretaker for Children with Cerebral Palsy (Boarding Facility) - YWCA Tanzania, Dar es salaam Branch

The Caretaker for Children with Cerebral Palsy is responsible for providing comprehensive daily care, support and supervision to children with cerebral palsy residing in a boarding facility. The caretaker will assist with personal hygiene, feeding, mobility, medication administration and emotional support, ensuring a safe, comfortable and nurturing environment. The caretakers are also expected to rotate and stay overnight with the children as part of their duties.

Responsibilities:

• Assist children with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, feeding and toileting
• Support and motivate children during physical therapy and mobility exercises
• Monitor children’s health, report any concerns and administer prescribed medication when necessary
• Ensure a safe and hygienic environment at all times
• Provide emotional support and companionship to children
• Maintain accurate records of daily routines, health status and any incidents
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals and families to meet individual needs
• Stay overnight at the boarding facility to monitor and care for children during sleeping hours
• Follow all safety and health regulations, including infection control protocols
• Promote a caring, respectful and inclusive environment for children

Qualifications:

• Ordinary Level Secondary education or higher
• Previous experience in caring for children with disabilities, especially cerebral palsy, is preferred
• Compassion, patience and a caring attitude
• Ability to handle physically demanding tasks and assist with mobility
• Good communication skills and ability to work with children and families
• Willingness to stay overnight and work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
• Willingness to learn basic knowledge of child health and safety protocols
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism
