SOS Children’s Villages Tanzania is a local non-government organization affiliated to SOS Children’s Villages International, a worldwide childcare and protection organization that provides orphaned and destitute children with a permanent home and educational opportunities. Established 60 years ago, SOS Children’s Villages International, the umbrella organization, currently has Children’s Villages and other projects in 135 countries around the world. Globally, it runs the SOS Children’s Village Programme which has two main programs, i.e. Family Like Care and Family Strengthening Programmes supporting families in local communities. SOS Children’s Villages has been working in the United Republic of Tanzania since 1991. Our programs are in Zanzibar, Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, Dodoma and Iringa.

Job Title: Community Empowerment & Protection Officer

Duty Station: Pwani (1 post) and Arusha (1 post)

Reporting to: Project Manager

Job Summary

The Project Officer will be responsible for the effective planning, implementation, coordination and monitoring of Children in Street Situation (CiSS) project activities to ensure timely delivery of project outputs and outcomes. The role provides technical support to project implementation under the guidance of the Project Manager and ensures compliance with organizational policies and donor requirements. The position also plays a key role in stakeholder engagement, reporting, and strengthening partnerships with government, civil society, and private sector actors at district, regional, and national levels.

Major Responsibilities

• Support the planning, coordination, and implementation of project activities in line with approved work plans and budgets.
• Ensure timely execution of project interventions and contribute to the achievement of project deliverables.
• Provide technical input into project activities, including trainings, workshops, and community-based interventions.
• Assist in budget monitoring and ensure compliance with organizational financial and reporting procedures.
• Coordinate with District Local Governments, Civil Society Organizations, and private sector partners to support effective implementation.
• Support identification, training, supervision, and mentoring of field staff and implementing partners including social workers and drop-in centres.
• Organise workshops, seminars and training activities, and provide technical guidance and logistical support needed.
• Prepare regular project reports, including technical updates, progress reports, and documentation of lessons learned.
• Facilitate monitoring, evaluation, and data collection processes to track project performance.
• Support stakeholder engagement, coordination meetings, and communication of project results and experiences.
• Support cross-district, national and other related project assignments when required.
• Contribute to national and sub-national discussions and debates relating to the project, and on emerging issues that have an impact on the project implementation.
• Ensure quality engagement of key project stakeholders at National and sub national levels.
• Facilitate and support the development of communication materials and contribute to the effective presentation of project support visibility.

Academic Qualification and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to Social work, sociology, community development, or any related field.
• The position requires a professional with at least three years’ experience in the field related to street children or community-related interventions.
• Three years of work experience in managing and coordinating projects within the social development intervention.
• Proven ability to organize and facilitate multi-stakeholder participatory processes.
• Proven ability in project management and administration.
• Ability to communicate with different partners and stakeholders.
• Demonstrated skills in computer literacy, technical report writing and communication.
• Demonstrated ability to work with government agencies, research institutions and NGOs.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team.
• Fluency in English and knowledge of languages spoken in the project area is an added advantage.
• Willingness to work and visit the mapped area for street children’s settlement.
• Ability to be innovative and pro-active.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision and function in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Sensitivity to local conditions, ethics and norms and sensitivity to gender and children’s issues.
