The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking a Demand Creation Associate to fulfil its vision of bringing biofortified products to scale under the partnership with Harvest Plus. This role will be based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and is offered on a two years fixed term contract basis.
GAIN is a Swiss-based foundation launced at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with both governments and businesses, we aim to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious food for all people. In particular, we aim to make healthier food choices more desirable, more available and more affordable. GAIN's mission is to advance nutrition outcomes by improving consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially those most vulnerable to malnutrition.
In 2018 GAIN and HarvestPlus entered into a partnership with a shared ambition to expand coverage of biofortified nutrient dense foods in six targeted countries where malnutrition is most pervasive. The focus is on biofortified varieties of six highly promising crops, developed by HarvestPlus and its partners.
GAIN and HarvestPlus have each developed products, technologies and delivery tools that have demonstrably improved diet quality for hundreds of millions in low income communities. The partnership will focus on expanding reach and coverage of biofortified nutrient-enriched crops to consumers via market channels, with a heavy emphasis on commercialization of both seed, and crops as ingredients into the food system.
In Tanzania, the Demand Creation Associate will coordinate the design and implementation of activities and partnerships at country level, to fulfill the vision of bringing biofortified products to scale under the partnership of GAIN and HarvestPlus. They will also provide technical leadership for sustained demand creation activities for the project.
To be considered, you must have prior experience in producing marketable nutritious food products. Knowledge of food fortification is essential, as is an understanding of beans and maize patterns and market systems in Tanzania. You should bring a good understanding of regulatory and legal food standards frameworks and be able to support entrepreneurial business development within these structures.
In addition to a competitive salary, GAIN offers 25 days holiday (in addition to public holidays), flexible working, and professional development opportunities. We will support you to grow your career and offer this in a supportive, collaborative environment. Additionally, country-specific benefits may apply.
