Health and Safety Officer

Location: Dar Es Salaam

Job Brief

The Health and Safety Officer will ensure that Compassion Aid follows health and safety regulations to provide a safe work place to everyone. They aim to prevent injuries, accidents and health problems. This role requires proficiency in accounting principles, software, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct risk assessments and audits, checking that machinery and equipment are safe and that management systems and working methods meet current legal standards.
• Explain regulations in areas such as occupational health, noise, dust and fumes, fire safety, and moving and storing dangerous materials, ensuring everyone adheres to them.
• Identify possible dangers and unsafe working methods and suggest ways to address them.
• Collaborate with managers, employees, and trade unions to develop policies and take action to promote safe working practices and eliminate potential hazards.
• Consult with the Health and Safety Executive, local authorities, and fire authorities to verify that premises meet current legal health and safety standards.
• Run training courses to encourage and promote safe working practices.
• Maintain records of accidents, complaints, unsafe procedures or equipment, and any actions taken.
• Test safety equipment and advise on its use.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Health, Security, Procurement, Finance, or a related field.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
• An enquiring mind.
• Sound judgment.
• Attention to detail.
• A flexible approach to work.

Skills Required

• Willingness to keep up-to-date with changes in the law and technological advancements.

• Ability to explain scientific or technical information in simple terms.

Salary Range: USD 1,900 TO USD 2,100 (pm) depending on the level of competency.
