HIGHWAY ENGINEER

INDUSTRY: CONSTRUCTION

HR World Limited, on behalf of our client, is seeking an experienced and technically competent Highway Engineer to oversee and supervise highway construction activities, ensuring works are executed safely, efficiently, within approved timelines and budgets, and in accordance with approved designs, specifications, quality standards, and contractual requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Supervise and coordinate highway construction works, including earthworks, embankments, subgrade, subbase, base course, surfacing, drainage, and associated road works.
• Ensure road construction activities are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, standards, and contractual requirements.
• Monitor road alignment, levels, gradients, crossfalls, pavement thickness, and other technical requirements.
• Coordinate road construction activities with bridge, culvert, drainage, and other structural works to ensure proper interfaces and sequencing.
• Review construction methods and provide technical solutions to engineering and construction challenges encountered on site.
• Monitor construction progress against approved programmes and identify delays, constraints, and critical activities.
• Recommend and implement appropriate measures to improve productivity and recover construction delays.
• Inspect completed works and coordinate field and laboratory testing to ensure compliance with required quality standards.
• Identify non-conforming works and ensure timely corrective actions are implemented.
• Verify quantities of completed works and maintain accurate measurement and site records.
• Monitor the effective utilization of labour, plant, equipment, and construction materials.
• Plan and coordinate construction activities considering rainfall, flooding, ground conditions, and other site-specific risks.
• Ensure adequate temporary drainage, water diversion, erosion control, and protection measures are implemented during construction.
• Coordinate road approaches, bridge interfaces, approach slabs, drainage, and pavement transitions to minimize defects and rework.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Highway Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field from a recognized institution.
• Professional registration with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) of Tanzania, appropriate to the level of responsibility.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in highway/road construction, preferably on major road infrastructure projects.
• Proven experience in highway construction supervision, including earthworks, pavement, drainage, culverts, and road finishing works.
• Experience coordinating road works with bridges, structures, drainage systems, and other infrastructure components.
