Position Purpose

The Mechanical and Electrical Fitter will be responsible for diagnostic fault finding on mechanical and electrical systems, breakdown repairs, and servicing of light vehicle equipment, as guided by their supervisor and trainer.

Key Accountabilities

• Compliance with all HS&E policies, procedures, and instructions, including the correct use of safety devices, protective equipment, and prompt reporting of hazardous situations.
• Adherence to all company policies and procedures.
• Taking reasonable care for personal safety and the safety of others.
• Performing pre-start checks and SWICs.
• Ensuring inspections and maintenance are carried out on all equipment before use.
• Ensuring all tools are serviceable and safe.
• Working to minimize equipment downtime and maximize productivity.
• Carrying out standard workplace inspection practices and procedures and preparing areas for drilling, charging, or scraping in accordance with mine safety procedures.
• Maintaining a high standard of housekeeping.
• Liaising with the underground shift supervisor to ensure all work is done safely and efficiently, and advising when equipment is out of service and can be returned to service.

Key Performance Tasks

• Carrying out scheduled servicing of mobile equipment safely and in accordance with service sheets.
• Utilizing skills and experience to minimize machinery downtime.
• Ensuring correct recording of maintenance activities.
• Maintaining a high level of housekeeping in workshop and working areas at all times.
• Ensuring all parts are kept at minimum stock levels.
• Reading and interpreting service and spare parts manuals.
• Reporting all equipment faults to the Maintenance Supervisor/Foreman for workshop scheduling.
• Ensuring site and maintenance procedures are maintained.
• Assisting with the training of other tradespeople to support a constructive team environment.

Essential Requirements

• Strong background working with underground mobile mining equipment, including TOYOTA.
• At least 2 years of post-apprenticeship experience.
• Competence in auto electrics and diesel engine maintenance.
• Willingness to learn to improve skills and gain further experience on mobile equipment.
• Basic First Aid certification.
• Ability to drive a manual vehicle with a valid Tanzanian Driver’s License.
• Completed secondary school education.
• Relevant Trade Qualification.
• Basic numeracy and verbal/written English skills.
