Medical Data Processing Officer

Main Purpose

MSF, in collaboration with MoH, is carrying out a GBS IAP Feasibility study in Liwale. Your main purpose will be to carry out medical data collection and entry activities into the GBS study database recording all relevant clinical and demographic data on patients and ensuring data quality/reliability, according to MSF protocols and maintaining confidentiality while producing the appropriate, updated documents for the medical team in order to support decision making processes.

Accountabilities

• Performing data entry of all epidemiological information into select databases program and creating appropriate reports, providing data for project development purposes.
• Ensuring that all data entered has been authorized and that appropriate documentation has been received (patient records, treatment monitoring, etc.). Ensuring that all data entry processes occur in a timely and efficient manner.
• Ensuring all data collected and entered to databases is consistently accurate and complete. Being responsible for ensuring that quality control queries of the database are followed up, ensuring identification of data entry errors and corrections. Immediately reporting to the supervisor, any anomalies in the database
• Filing documents according to MSF standards
• Communicating regularly with the HCW’s, assisting in the (re)training when necessary, on proper registration of patients, proper filling of the various forms, clarifying queries, obtaining missing information and correcting errors, ensuring they have ongoing sufficient supplies of necessary hardcopy data collection forms
• Assisting in the compilation and preparation of regular reports and providing detailed information to medical and laboratory teams (weekly, monthly, according to patient treatment requirements).
• According to the needs of the Liwale GBS study title “Feasibility of Screening-based Intrapartum Antibiotic Chemoprophylaxis for Group B Streptococcus Disease Prevention”, enter the study-related collected data in Liwale Health Centre and Liwale District Hospital into the provided study databases.
• Ensure completeness and correctness of the data entered into the study databases and report any inconsistencies to the activity manager and appropriate MSF/MoH staff for timely correction.
• Ensure the forms provided by the study team are well stored and confidentiality ensured following procedures for study guidelines in strict compliance with the study protocol.
• Report any break in the study protocol in keeping with NATREC ethical protocols on data to supervisors in a timely manner.
• Keep track of the forms required by the team to ensure timely printing in collaboration with supervisors.
• Provide simple summaries of the statistics when required to.
• Keep track of the study participants follow up in collaboration with the study midwives and the supervisors using the database.
• Responsible for ensuring that quality control queries of the study databases are followed up, ensuring identification of data entry errors and corrections. Immediately reporting to the supervisor, any anomalies in the study databases.
• Support the study team in proper filing of the forms as necessary.

Minimum Educational Qualification

Essential, higher education with proven computer literacy, degree in data management, Information and Technology (IT) or mathematics field, desirable

Experience

At least 2-year work experience in data capturing or support monitoring and evaluation. Work experience in a hospital or a health center is an asset.

Knowledge

Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)

Able to learn and use software used for recording (i.e. Kobo, Redcap, DHIS2, Fuchia, EpiInfo, etc.
