BACKGROUND

UMATI, established in 1959, a member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), is a leading non-profit Association providing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Information and services in Tanzania. The Association has a long history of leadership in the country’s SRH programs, including pioneering SRH and Family planning (FP) services through its own clinics in Kilimanjaro, Dodoma, Morogoro, Songea, and Mbinga. These clinics provided integrated SRH information and services to youth, women, and men of reproductive age. UMATI is governed by a well-established volunteer structure.

UMATI is envisioning seeing a Tanzania where people are free to choose and exercise their Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights without discrimination in gender, sex, and age. The visioning process of UMATI highlighted the need to integrate “without discrimination” as a recurring theme as well as an organizational value statement. “Freedom of choice” was agreed as a paramount inclusion at the end that UMATI would love to see by doing its core business.
