JOB DESCRIPTION
The Hepatitis Fund is dedicated to finding a cure and improving the quality of life for those affected by hepatitis B worldwide. Our commitment includes funding focused research, promoting disease awareness, supporting immunization and treatment initiatives, and serving as the primary source of information for patients and their families, the medical and scientific community, and the general public.
The Project Nurse assumes a pivotal role in the coordination and implementation of the outreach services. The HePVac Project in Tanzania aims to prevent hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, a serious liver disease. These projects typically focus on strategies like routine infant vaccination, prevention of perinatal transmission, and catch-up vaccination for older age groups.
The Projectnurse under the supervision of the Project Manager will work closely with the communities and health facility teams to ensure regular provision of preventive and curative health services
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Providing high quality health care and ensuring high quality clinical services for the communities during the project
- Lead the outreach team in the health promotion activities to the communities.
- Report and request for the medical supplies and equipment.
- Collect all outreach data using the electronic and paper–based tools and report to the Project Manager every month.
- Strengthen referral services to the community members including scheduling for the follow up.
- Liaise with the health facility teams, community leaders and council health management team for scheduled outreach services to ensure efficient resources utilization.
- Proactively identify opportunities for the mobile health clinic/van to increase demand, efficiency and quality outreach services delivery and present them to the project manager for the further development of the project
SKILL & EXPERIENCE
- Awareness of, and sensitivity to, the health issues of the community.
- Ability to provide compassionate, respectful, non-judgmental and culturally competent care to the disenfranchised and primary populations.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both in writing and orally. Proficiency in other languages is an asset.
- Ability to function independently in potentially difficult situations and the ability to decide which presenting conditions are a priority.
- Ability to deal with disruptive behaviour and manage crises.
- Ability to plan and organize assigned duties.
- Ability to establish positive working relationships with a multi-disciplinary team, clients and service providers.
- Ability to problem-solve and apply sound judgment.
- Proficiency in the use of computer software/electronic medical records
EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
- Valid RN license
- Minimum of a diploma from an accredited nursing school required; Bachelor of Nursing or other Science degree preferred
- Two (2) years of recent clinical nursing experience in a hospital, clinic or similar health care setting (Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for one (1) year work experience)
- Nursing competency skills per scope of practice (i.e., performing vital signs, nursing assessments, etc.)
- At least two (2) years clinical trials research experience preferred
- Strong follow through skills and ability to proactively identify and solve problems; demonstrated initiative is imperative
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Word and Excel, electronic health systems and databases used in research environment.
- Possess the ability to work well under pressure, multi-task, and manage deadlines
- Knowledge of GCP and local regulations
