Project Physiotherapist - Vijiji Tanzania

Vijiji Tanzania, a fully registered sister organization of Vijiji International, is dedicated to improving rural primary healthcare delivery through Community Health Promotion systems across all 26 administrative regions of Tanzania. Our research highlights that access to quality healthcare is influenced by more than just distance, emphasizing transparency, quality, and community engagement as critical factors for the future of rural healthcare. A key insight from our findings is the importance of recognizing the individuality of each community within the larger aggregates of Villages (Vijiji). Therefore, optimizing rural healthcare delivery requires a focus on community awareness, engagement, management interface, redefining access, leadership, and finances at the village level.

In partnership with Agarimo for Africa from Spain, Vijiji Tanzania is implementing the “Afya Ubongo Watoto” Project. This project focuses on early interventional therapy through physiotherapy for children with neurological deficits, developmental delays, motor delays, impaired cognitive functioning, impaired language, or impaired adaptive functioning.

About the Role

The Project Physiotherapist will be instrumental in coordinating project activities and managing the clinical conditions and symptoms of children, including pain, stiffness, and discomfort. The role involves actively planning and executing physiotherapy interventions for:

• Children’s Injury Rehabilitation
• Children’s Pain Management
• Children’s Post-Surgical Recovery
• Children’s Neurological Rehabilitation
• Children’s Cardiorespiratory Rehabilitation
• Children’s Paediatric Physiotherapy

Key Responsibilities

• Support children under 5 years of age in their recovery from injury, reduction of pain and stiffness, increased mobility and movement, and maximization of function.
• Identify children exhibiting symptoms such as dizziness, diplopia, dysarthria, dysphagia, drop attacks, nausea and vomiting, sensory changes, nystagmus, and motor delays, providing prompt physiotherapy intervention.
• Identify and correct any alterations following birth injuries.
• Perform early stimulation through physiotherapy to facilitate the development of motor skills, improve posture, balance, muscle tone, and overall strength in infants.
• Provide guidance to parents and foster a humanizing therapeutic environment.
• Promote healthier posture by preventing anomalous movement patterns and reducing potential developmental delays.
• Enable functionality in daily activities and solve challenges that directly impact the child’s quality of life.
• Ensure complete data collection and provide monthly reports to the project management teams.

Education, Experience, and Skills

• Minimum of 1 year of progressive physiotherapy intervention experience.
• Experience in project implementation is preferred.
• Minimum qualification: Diploma in Physiotherapy or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
• An additional certificate in Paediatric Physiotherapy will be an added advantage.
• Strong command of MS Office suite.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
