Job Overview
Kafika House is seeking a motivated, self-driven, and compassionate Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist to join our Patient Care Team at our Arusha facility. This role is ideal for someone passionate about providing therapeutic care to children with disabilities, both pre- and post-operatively, and committed to helping them achieve independence in daily living activities. The Therapist will plan and lead therapy sessions, assess patients, create care plans, and work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the best outcomes for our patients.

About Us
Kafika House is an international NGO in Arusha, Tanzania. We run the Kafika House programme, providing a safe and nurturing home away from home for children receiving pre- and post-operative care and rehabilitation for surgically treatable disabilities. These include cleft lip and palate, clubfoot, skeletal fluorosis, burn scar contractures and osteomyelitis.. Our vision is that no child in Tanzania lives with a treatable disability.
Role Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and lead daily pediatric group therapy sessions.
- Conduct initial assessments and develop individualized care plans.
- Document patient progress in both paper and electronic medical records.
- Participate in daily and weekly ward rounds, providing wellness updates and care plan adjustments.
- Demonstrate patient advocacy in high quality, holistic, clinical care.
- Support partner hospital clinics and screenings, advocating for patients and assisting in care coordination.
- Participate in our ongoing education programme and Continuing Professional Development, sharing knowledge and skills with other members of the interdisciplinary team
- Assist in specialized clinics (clubfoot, wound care, therapeutic activity center).
- Supervise therapy assistants, students, and interdisciplinary interns.
- Engage in community activities such as patient screening, advocacy, and disability awareness.
- Foster a caring environment that promotes healing, rehabilitation, and inclusion.
Education, Skills, and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Knowledge and practical experience in the ponseti method is an added advantage.
- Registration with a relevant professional body in Tanzania.
- At least 3 years’ clinical experience in pediatric occupational therapy or physiotherapy (NGO or rehabilitation center experience is an added advantage).
- Strong teamwork, communication, and time management skills.
- Compassionate, patient, and adaptable to changing environments.
- Proficient in documentation and care plan development.
