Responsibilities
- Communicate safety issues and strategies to other members of the crew and encourage a proactive and interactive approach to safety and health issues.
- Carry out inspections of workplaces to ensure that a safe workplace is maintained and potential hazards are dealt with appropriately before commencement or continuation of work in that area.
- Ensure that a workplace Inspection Sheet is completed prior to commencing work at each workplace.
- Liaise, through the Underground Shift Supervisor, with Engineers, Geologists, Surveyors and other departments to assist in meeting of production and development targets.
- Ensure that any damage to plant, vehicles or machinery is reported and that a pre-start check is completed prior to operating any vehicle or heavy machinery.
- Ensure that all incidents are reported as required under the safety Act and Regulations and according to Company policy.
- Ensure oncoming operator is given all relevant information relating to the current status and condition of your working areas.
- Accurate and timely completion of timecards at the end of each shift.
- Ensure Pre-start check lists are filled and returned to the shift supervisor
- Keep equipment and always working area clean. Clean spillage from trucks, walks, driveways.
- Participation in all applicable safety toolbox and prestart meetings.
- Comply with Company Environmental, Health, Safety and Operational policies and procedures.
Qualification Requirements
- Secondary School Certificate / Vocational Training/ Apprenticeship in a related field / college program in heavy equipment operation.
- Hold a valid Tanzanian driver’s license.
- Heavy Mobile equipment operation skills.
Experience and Competencies Needed
Minimum of 4 years of experience in underground mining environment as a “scoop Operator” preferably has operated SANDVIK LHD621i, LHD517i or Caterpillar R2900G.
