Sous Chef - Serengeti National Park
About the Role
A reputable tour company operating luxury safari camps and lodges in Tanzania is looking for a highly motivated, experienced, and professional Sous Chef to join their kitchen team in their camp in Serengeti National Park.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Chef in managing the kitchen and ensuring smooth daily operations.
- Prepare and present high-quality meals according to company standards.
- Supervise and guide kitchen staff during food preparation and service.
- Ensure food quality, taste, presentation, and consistency.
- Maintain high standards of hygiene, cleanliness, and food safety in the kitchen.
- Monitor food stocks and minimize wastage.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of food items.
- Coordinate kitchen activities with the restaurant and service team.
- Train and mentor junior kitchen staff.
- Ensure all meals are prepared and served on time.
- Assist with stock-taking and control of kitchen supplies.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety regulations, and camp standards.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Head Chef or management.
Qualifications and Experience
- Certificate or Diploma in Food Production or Hotel Management, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of working experience as a Chef de Partie, Sous Chef, or in a similar position, preferably in a lodge, hotel, or safari camp.
- Experience in a remote safari camp environment will be an added advantage.
- Good knowledge of international and local cuisine.
- Strong knowledge of food hygiene and safety standards.
- Good leadership and team-management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work and live in a remote camp environment.
- Must be disciplined, reliable, creative, and passionate about cooking.
