Tax Accountant Officer Position

Sotta Mining Corporation Limited is seeking a dedicated and experienced Tax Accountant Officer for its Tanzanian operations. This is a full-time position with a roster of 5:2 working days, based in Dar es Salaam.

About the Role

The Tax Accountant Officer will play a crucial role in managing the Group’s tax compliance and reporting activities across Tanzania. This includes overseeing corporate income tax, VAT, withholding tax, and transfer pricing obligations. You will support tax advisory functions, contribute to month-end reporting, assist with tax audits, and participate in finance-related projects. This role is integral to ensuring compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements under the guidance of the Senior Tax and Compliance Advisor and Head of Tax.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure timely and accurate filing of corporate income tax, VAT, withholding tax, and transfer pricing obligations.
• Prepare tax provisions, reconciliations, and ensure compliance with IAS 12 tax reporting requirements.
• Support tax audits, dispute resolution processes, and government relations matters.
• Manage VAT refund claims and maintain comprehensive, audit-ready tax records and documentation.
• Identify and mitigate tax risks through effective monitoring and internal controls.
• Support process improvement initiatives and tax compliance monitoring activities.
• Collaborate effectively with finance, legal, and operational teams on regulatory and statutory reporting requirements.
• Provide tax advisory support across various business functions and liaise with external advisors, auditors, and consultants.
• Promote a strong culture of compliance with Health, Safety, Environment, and Community requirements.

Skills, Knowledge, and Attributes Required

• Strong knowledge of tax compliance, tax accounting, and tax reporting principles.
• Excellent analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting/ERP systems.
• Knowledge of tax audits, dispute resolution, VAT refunds, and tax risk management.
• Experience working in multinational or listed companies is considered an advantage.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a closely related field.
• Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in taxation, preferably gained within a Big Four audit firm, mining, extractive, or a large corporate environment.
• A CPA(T), ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification will be an added advantage.
