About this job
Mining Manager
Tembo Nickel is seeking to recruit a Mining Manager to join the Tembo Nickel Project Team. This role is based at Kabanga Site on a 6/3 roster.
Position Summary
The Mining Manager is responsible for leading the strategic transition of the underground asset from a project phase into steady-state production. Operating initially as the project delivery lead for contractor mobilization, Boxcut establishment, and decline development, the role transitions into a commissioning phase focused on the completion of ventilation shafts, backfill plants, and managing the EPCM interface and infrastructure handovers. Operationally, the position owns the establishment of the technical services team, safe working procedures, and the active execution of stopping and backfilling sequences within Tembo’s OHS, environmental, and localization frameworks.
Duties and Responsibilities
Project & Construction Phase
Responsible for the mobilization and management of the underground mining operation.
Lead the site establishment and physical mobilization of the underground mining contractor’s workforce and fleet.
Oversee the establishment of Boxcut and mining infrastructure, managing decline development strictly according to the project schedule, establishing and equipping ventilation shafts, and establishing backfill plants.
Commissioning & Operational Phase
Build, resource, and manage the owner’s team technical services department (including mine engineering, geology, and survey).
Manage the operational interface between EPCM construction activities and early mining works to prevent clashes, ensuring seamless infrastructure handover.
Establish, implement, and audit safe working procedures (SOPs) for all underground mining, pioneering, and maintenance activities.
Plan and implement strong operational and scheduling interfaces between active stopping and backfilling operations, taking full accountability for daily, weekly, and monthly physical targets.
Enforce strict contractor and internal compliance with established Tembo OHS, environmental, and localization frameworks, to systematically transition operational roles to national workers and maintain the project’s social license.
Manage the mining operational budget, validate contractor claims, and strictly control financial variances.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or related field.
Knowledge and Experience
Minimum 20 years of senior underground mining operational leadership with direct experience in mechanized decline development and stopping operations.
Proven track record managing primary mining contractors and establishing owner’s technical services teams in remote, developing jurisdictions.
Direct experience interfacing with EPCM or construction teams during infrastructure handovers.
Strong technical understanding of underground mine design, scheduling, and budgeting, with the ability to track variances and validate contractor commercial claims.
Tembo Nickel offers a competitive remuneration package, and ONLY shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
