Job Title: Depot Operative

We are seeking a Depot Operative with strong English language skills to ensure the smooth daily operation of our depot facilities. This role will play a key part by maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly depot environment, supporting staff welfare through effective canteen service management and assisting with daily operational logistics to keep workflows efficient and uninterrupted. This position is essential in upholding our hygiene standards and ensuring seamless depot operations across all functions.

Key Responsibilities:
Canteen Management: Procure canteen supplies within budgetary limits, maintain a purchase logbook, and adhere to the weekly menu. Serve meals promptly during designated hours.
Kitchen Hygiene & Equipment Care: Uphold high hygiene standards in food preparation, clean kitchen utensils after use, and report any equipment faults immediately.
Messenger & Support Duties: Act as the Depot Messenger and assist with general tasks as directed.
Facility Maintenance: Ensure the cleanliness and upkeep of the car park and other assigned areas.
Warehouse & Logistics Assistance: Support the forklift driver in assembling, arranging, loading, and offloading products, as well as stacking/packing in the warehouse.
Compliance & Reporting: Record canteen purchases for verification by the Distribution Manager and follow all operational protocols.
Qualifications & Attributes:
Education:
General Certificate of Education – Grade 12
Experience:
Minimum of one (1) year in cleaning/janitorial work – Proven experience in maintaining hygiene standards in workplaces or facilities.
Basic kitchen/canteen assistance – Experience in food handling, meal prep, or inventory management.
Warehouse/logistics support – Prior involvement in loading/unloading, stacking goods, or assisting forklift operations.
Procurement or stock recording – Familiarity with tracking purchases, managing budgets, or maintaining logbooks.
General labour/messenger duties – Experience in running errands, delivering documents, or assisting with ad-hoc tasks.
Knowledge & Skills:
Cleaning & sanitation: Ability to use cleaning equipment and follow hygiene protocols effectively.
Basic cooking & meal service: Skill in preparing simple meals and adhering to food safety standards.
Record-keeping: Competence in maintaining accurate logs (e.g., purchases, equipment checks).
Manual handling & physical stamina: Capable of lifting, stacking, and moving goods safely.
Time management: Ability to prioritise tasks (e.g., meal service, cleaning, warehouse support).
Interpersonal skills: Courteous interaction with staff/clients, helpful and friendly.
Attributes:
Attention to detail: Ensures cleanliness, proper food handling, and accurate record-keeping.
Reliability: Consistently completes tasks on time with minimal supervision.
Team player: Willing to assist colleagues in warehouse, kitchen, or general duties.
Adaptability: Handles varied tasks (cleaning, logistics, messenger duties) with flexibility.
