HSE Officer

Contract type: Specified Period of Time contract

Duty Station: Sengerema District, Mwanza, Tanzania

Roles and Responsibilities

• Understand the potential environmental impacts associated with HSE activities on site.
• Attend daily work group Toolbox and Pre-Start Meetings each morning to assist HSE Representatives and Supervisors in running effective Toolbox and Pre-Start Meetings.
• Assist in the application of Perseus Mining risk and fatal management processes, including Hazard ID, Job Hazard Analyses (JHA), and other formal risk assessments.
• Conduct General Site Inductions and other HSE training courses and assess all personnel present.
• Check site Noticeboards on a regular basis to ensure they have current and relevant HSE information displayed, including Incident Alerts, Site Safety Committee Meeting Minutes, etc.
• Ensure all safety monitoring equipment is checked at least weekly and maintained as operable in accordance with manufacturer’s standard (e.g., speed gun, alcohol test units, gas detectors, etc.).
• Assist other departments with the establishment of Safe Work Zones (e.g., Working at heights, Confined Space Entry) if your skills and knowledge allow.

Qualification and Experience

• Tertiary qualifications in OHS, possess National Occupational Safety and Health Course (NOSHC).
• NEBOSH certification and valid driving license (able to drive manual vehicles).

Skills and Experience Required

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in heavy industry, construction involving high-risk work, and at least 2 years must have been on operational mine sites.
