Job Description: Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)

Main Purpose

Performing autonomously, specific complex/advanced installation, maintenance works, and repairs depending on technician’s specialization (requiring special qualifications/training), according to supervisor’s instructions and MSF standards and procedures, ensuring proper functioning and maintenance of MSF equipment, installations, and infrastructures.

Main Accountabilities

  • Performing autonomously all necessary complex/advanced installations, maintenance, and repairs as required by special qualifications/training according to the supervisor’s instructions.
  • Making suggestions regarding any repair or maintenance work needed in MSF electrical installations, equipment, and/or vehicles; assisting logistics department for relative work.
  • Managing the stock of consumable items, maintaining stock cards, carrying out physical inventories, executing necessary orders to renew stock, avoiding shortages.
  • Responsible for equipment and tools maintenance, ensuring safe use, renewing them when necessary, keeping inventory updated.
  • Maintaining a clean working area.
  • Ensuring all record sheets and books related to logistical maintenance are completed; preparing needed reports before and after any repair or required maintenance.
  • Immediately informing the line manager of any problems arising in the course of work, especially regarding damage, loss, theft, or attempted break-ins.
  • Collaborating with other specialized technicians/workers as necessary or managing a small team of workers.

Context Specific Accountabilities (Energy)

  • Carrying out all electricity works at premises requested by the line manager and any task identified by the employee approved by the line manager.
  • Performing weekly maintenance procedures and safety checks of electrical installations across facilities in the project.
  • Conducting monthly reviews of fire safety installation, proposing solutions to the line manager for faults.
  • Regular maintenance of generators and cold chain equipment following a preventive maintenance plan.
  • Diagnosing problems/deterioration in equipment and proposing solutions to the line manager/technical adviser.
  • Identifying local technical actors, organizing their participation for training, establishing relations with local companies, contractors, suppliers, quotations, contracts, etc.
  • Organizing the technical service responsible for electrical installations and equipment (technical teams, maintenance/reparation procedures, tooling, accessories, workshop, technical stock).
  • Closely working with project mechanic on generators, fuel used in house and ETC, reporting weekly to line manager.
  • Managing the stock of electrical and generator maintenance consumable items together with Supply Supervisor; ensuring inventory management and security stocks.
  • Maintaining and checking solar panels for efficiency and cleanliness periodically.
  • Participating in energy policy.
  • Performing biomed equipment maintenance, reporting issues/problems to supervisor, proposing solutions, documenting additional assistance needed.

Minimum Educational Qualification

Essential: Secondary school diploma and technical diploma in the assigned area (Energy and/or Biomed). Desirable: Diploma in civil engineering, environmental science.

Experience

  • Demonstrating experience in technical area with a minimum of 2 years’ experience; essential at least two years previous working experience. Desirable in MSF or other NGOs.

Languages

Mission language (English) and local language (Sawhili) are essential.
