Responsibilities

• Measure and record mine ambient conditions, airflow and cooling.
• Create ventilation instructions to aid in the maintenance and improvement of the mine ventilation.
• Manage and direct the maintenance and repair of the mine ventilation equipment, fans, coolers.
• Control and direct activities related to the quantification, dilution and elimination of hazardous gases in the mine.
• Ensure all ventilation instructions are aligned with standard operating procedures.
• Identify, rectify and/or report all hazards in the workplace daily when on shift.
• Report all incident/accident that occur to the supervisor and shift leader.
• Conduct Planned task observations on mine ventilation and other mining tasks.
• Completing field level risk assessments when completing tasks assigned
• Conduct Job Safety Analysis or team-based risk assessments for every task without a procedure
• Carry out housekeeping activities before and after every task completed
• Compliance to always wearing the correct PPE for the task
• Responsible for conducting weekly ventilation surveys.
• Design and provide advice on installation of doors, regulators, auxiliary fans and main Mine fans.
• Knowledge of moving and installing mine surface fans, underground booster fans, extending vent ducts, gas check surveys and applying control standards in the working area.
• Participation in underground development and surface surveys.
• Compliance to the daily tracking and weekly plan
• Compliance to required stope notes for all stopes
• Compliance to all stope reconciliation when required
• Create, manage and control mine ventilation budget within 5% of budgeted amount.
• Conduct mine ventilation surveys, monthly, quarterly and document through written technical report.

• Compliance to completing required Logs for Inspection daily, weekly, monthly.
• Training and coaching of mining personnel on mine ventilation basics and instrumentation.
• Maintain mine ventilation network analysis, simulation and schematics
• Maintain emergency response mine ventilation and escape plans.

Qualification Requirements

Mining ventilation technician, Mining Technician Diploma or equivalent.

Experience and Competencies Needed

• Minimum of 2-3 years in Underground environment
• At least 2-year experience as ventilation or mining technician
• Experience in the Gold Mining Industry
• Command of English Language reading, speaking and writing skills.
• Underground mine ventilation engineering and systems
• Project Management and budgeting skills
• OHS and Environmental legislation
• Tanzanian Mining Legislation
• Emergency Procedures.
• Incident reporting & Investigating
• Good Technical report writing and communication skills
• Self-driven requiring minimum supervision
• Computer skills (M), Excel (M), Access (I), Word
• Analysis and diagnosis of data
• Efficient Time Management skills
• Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment skills
• Training and presentation skills.
