VSO is the world's leading development organization that works through volunteers to fight poverty. We are unique in the way we bring people together to share their skills and experience, generate insights and ideas and, most of all, take action against poverty and exclusion. It's a highly effective approach that works, and today is helping millions of people in some of the world's poorest communities lift themselves out of poverty.
The ideal candidate for this role is an excellent communicator and representative for the youth in the youth council of Zanzibar. The relationship with this youth council was set up through previous youth projects of VSO Tanzania, and we are now looking for volunteers who can build on these relationships and where possible, extend them further. Next to this, you will be jointly responsible for building relationships with the Dar es Salaam youth council, which are currently non-existing. During this placement, you will work together intensively with an international volunteer, and you will be working on supporting these youth councils in the design and the implementation of their youth policy. The main goal of this will be the strengthening of the council’s youth engagement and youth voice. Plans should be made, initiatives should be undertaken and these ideas are expected to be executed to further enhance youth engagement in Tanzanian society. This can only be achieved when the volunteer is in constant conversation, either face to face or through other communications channels, with young people and/or their representing bodies. Next to that, the volunteer should also be a representative of VSO both in- and outside of the targeted youth councils. If you want to contribute to shaping and building the future of the youth in Tanzania, this is your job!
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in social studies, communication or comparable sector;
Knowledge of and previous experience in working in a developmental context or (I)NGO.
Note: This role is Eligible for Tanzanians.

Much has changed since VSO started 60 years ago. We’ve gone from being a UK charity to a truly global development organisation. In 2016/2017 alone, we worked with over 7,000 volunteers from all over the world and from all backgrounds to deliver services that had an impact on the lives of almost 2.6 million people in the 24 countries where we work. Our programmes focus on the areas of health, education and livelihoods, with an increasing emphasis on resilience building, social accountability, gender and social inclusion. We believe progress is only possible when we work together and that strong partnerships are crucial to delivering positive change. That’s why we work with over 500 partner organisations, from local and national governments, to businesses, NGOs, funders, charities and community groups. Currently, over 30% of our people are recruited from within the country in which they work, and we continue to grow the share of community and national volunteers involved in our programmes. We also send increasing numbers of volunteers from one developing country to another. However, our vision has remained the same; to build a world without poverty.More Jobs From This Company
