UNESCO is part of the UN Agencies implementing the UN Joint Programme on “Empowering Adolescent Girls and Young Women through Education in Tanzania”. The Implementation commenced in 2016 and ends in 2021.  Part of the programme works to support out of school adolescent girls and young women in Mainland and Zanzibar specifically in Ngorongoro, Kasulu, Sengerema and Mkoani districts. Among the projects objectives is to provide non-formal  Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and entrepreneurial skills development opportunities for livelihoods development of adolescent girls and young women who are out-of-school. The project has provided a number of youths with various skills including basic literacy. In addition, about 846 out of school youth were enrolled for prevocational skills training and gained skills in making batik, bar and liquid soap, nutritious flour, petroleum jelly, detergents and leather products. Further marketing identification and search were among the skills gained by the youths.

Despite the training in market identification and search, there are limitations in access to information related to the products they produce and market. This is due the limited communication skills which is exacerbated by lack of ICT skills hence not in a position to achieving their business goals.
