Health and Safety Officer

Job Brief: The Health and Safety Officer will ensure that Compassion Aid follows health and safety regulations to provide a safe workplace for everyone. They aim to prevent injuries, accidents, and health problems. This role requires proficiency in accounting principles, software, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct risk assessments and audits, checking that machinery and equipment are safe and that management systems and working methods meet current legal standards.
Explain regulations in areas such as occupational health; noise, dust, and fumes; fire safety; and moving and storing dangerous materials, and ensure everyone follows them.
Identify possible dangers and unsafe working methods and suggest ways to tackle them.
Work with managers, employees, and trade unions to create policies and take action to encourage safe working practices and eliminate potential dangers.
Consult with the Health and Safety Executive, local authorities, and fire authorities to verify that premises meet current legal health and safety standards.
Run training courses to encourage and promote safe working practices.
Maintain records of accidents or complaints, unsafe procedures or equipment, and any action taken.
Test safety equipment and advise on its use.


Requirements and Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Health, Security, Procurements, Finance, or a related field.
Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
An enquiring mind.
Sound judgement.
Attention to detail.
A flexible approach to work.


Skills Required

Willingness to keep up-to-date with changes in the law and technological advancements.
Observant.
Ability to explain scientific or technical information in simple terms.
