About the EpiC Project

COCODA Tanzania is implementing the Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC) project, funded by PEPFAR and led by FHI360. The project aims to achieve and maintain HIV epidemic control and is expected to be extended beyond its initial end date of September 2025.

Position Description

The Deputy Project Manager will oversee project activities and deliverables, support program staff in understanding program descriptions and required deliverables, monitor program performance, and advise on strategic direction. This role involves close collaboration with LGAs and ensuring effective government cooperation.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Program Manager and direct the technical, administrative project team.
  • Execute and monitor project activities according to required standards and guidance.
  • Manage project scope, budget, plans, and schedule.
  • Manage priorities, timelines, and project resources.
  • Prepare and update project plans and reports.
  • Participate in Comprehensive Council Health Plans (CCHP) meetings.
  • Liaise with Biomedical officers and Community Engagement Officers to map hot spots.
  • Work with biomedical officers on weekly review of index lists.
  • Liaise with DMOs office to secure Government biomedical providers.
  • Supervise project officers and ensure monthly planned activities are implemented.
  • Conduct staff performance evaluations.
  • Coordinate cross-functional meetings.
  • Allocate appropriate resources.
  • Report status, develop project documentation, and implement lessons learned.
  • Participate in project performance review meetings.
  • Present and account for project performance.
  • Write, compile, and review monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve conflicts.
  • Support and direct the team.
  • Evaluate and self-assess project progress.
  • Implement and manage changes to meet targets.
  • Knowledge of Community HIV Programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Clinical degree (Nurse, Medical Doctor), Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Community development, Project Management or Public Administration with 3 to 5 years experience in community-based HIV testing services.
  • Knowledge of managing health and development programs in Tanzania.
  • Familiarity with the public health sector and experience working with teams.
  • Experience managing HIV/AIDS programs at the community level in Tanzania; familiarity with PEPFAR-funded programs.
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and understanding of the needs of populations at risk of HIV.
  • Ability to manage tight deadlines.
  • High level of proficiency in written and spoken English and Swahili.
  • Well-developed computer skills.
