Hand in Hand Eastern Africa-Tanzania (HIHEA TZ) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) registered in Tanzania since 2016 with a mandate to operate in the country, and part of the Hand in Hand Global Network. Our vision is to empower the society, especially women, through the creation of sustainable enterprises and jobs. HIHEA (TZ) currently leads field operations through six branches, in Arusha, Kilimanjaro Singida, Manyara, Dodoma and Simiyu regions.

Scope of Work

Hand in Hand Eastern Africa-Tanzania (HIHEA TZ) seeks to recruit enumerators for conducting quantitative data collection in our areas of operation. Under the supervision of monitoring and evaluation team, enumerators will be required to administer interviews with individuals selected as per the sampling methodology and ensuring the information collected is valid and accurate.

Duties and Responsibilities

The enumerators will perform the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Attend the evaluation
  • Understand the scope, tools and purpose of the assignment
  • Act in a professional manner
  • Read and understand all instructions included in the questionnaire, data collection manual, and all instructions provided through the training in order to complete the survey in an appropriate manner.
  • Co-ordinate with the supervisors on how to carry out the survey and provide daily report of work progress.
  • Introduce yourself, explaining who you are and whom you are working for in a manner that facilitates participation of participants in the survey.
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality regarding all information related to the assessment, avoiding the presence of external people and following scrupulously instructions given.
  • The enumerators will be provided with a list of participants and shall approach all participants for the interview. In case of non-cooperation from respondents in the interview, the enumerators shall contact with the supervisor.
  • Interview individuals to obtain relevant information using qualitative and quantitative interview methods.
  • Assist in collecting feedback/ suggestions of participants, if needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the evaluation team.

Skills and Traits

  • Ability to gather information in an objective, appropriate and sensitive way by actively listening, by paying full attention and understand the points being made.
  • Ability to use Kobo Collect / ODK for data collection in surveys.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships.
  • Able to remain impartial and maintain confidence.
  • Able to elicit information without leading the interviewee.

Level of Education and Required Experience

  • Diploma or Degree preferably in Statistics, Economics, Agriculture, Development Economics, Project Management, Business Administration, Sociology, Community Development, or closely related discipline.
  • Master degree will be an added advantage.
  • At least 2-years’ experience in collecting quantitative and qualitative data.
  • In-depth skills of understanding community dynamics.
  • Experience of using tablets in data collection.
  • Skilled in basic interviewing techniques and attention to details.

Language requirements

Fluency in written and spoken Swahili and English.
