Reports to: Tanza Education Country Director

About Tanza

At Tanza, we believe that excellent people, systems, and structures are the backbone of impactful work. We invest deliberately in our team and we create simple, robust and adaptive systems and structures to achieve our goals. Together, these three elements transform promising ideas into real results. Our journey has begun in Ruvuma and Morogoro, where we are directly implementing Imagine Worldwide's Msingi Tek program in close partnership with the government; not just to deliver results, but to deeply understand what it takes to implement an ed-tech intervention with excellence in real-world conditions. This learning enables us to refine a model that can be handed over to others. Tanza's vision is to scale impact by incubating mission-driven leaders and organizations, equipping them with the people, systems, and structures they need to deliver with fidelity. By building a distributed model of execution, we aim to achieve results at scale.

About You

You are energized by the challenge of building something meaningful from the ground up- and unafraid to roll up your sleeves to make it happen. You bring a rare ability to zoom out and think strategically, while also zooming in to get every detail and every dollar right. Known for your high standards, you build clear, scalable, and highly replicable systems that strike the right balance between flexibility, efficiency, and strong controls. You thrive in environments where the path is being carved in real time, and you're excited to help shape it.

Your Goals

We've set big goals for this role - and we're excited to find someone who's motivated and capable to achieve them with us! First, we want to build the most cost-efficient internal operations the sector has ever seen. That means the lowest percentage overhead, achieved by designing, linking, automating, and simplifying systems across HR, procurement, finance, and day-to-day operations. Second, we aim to create a cookie-cutter model of this innovation - a replicable, exportable package of systems and processes - that can be handed over to other founders and organizations. That's how this innovation moves beyond us and truly changes how the sector operates.

However, this isn't a goal you'll ever check off as done. The standard will keep rising. So keep asking: What can we link? What can we automate? What can we simplify?

Your Responsibilities as We Begin Our Journey

  • Finance Operations: Own the full finance cycle - from configuring and streamlining QuickBooks, to managing bookkeeping, payments, and reconciliations, to preparing donor reports and statutory filings. Lead budgeting and forecasting processes, conduct variance analysis, manage cash flow and reserves, and ensure all financial records are audit-ready. Support audit processes and uphold full compliance with tax, NSSF, and donor regulations.
  • HR Administration: Manage all aspects of HR administration and payroll with accuracy and consistency. Maintain up-to-date personnel files, oversee benefit enrollment (e.g. health insurance), and support compliance with labor laws and internal policies.
  • Procurement Oversight: Design and manage a lean, donor-compliant procurement system tailored to team capacity. Maintain organized procurement records, integrate processes with finance systems where possible, and ensure strong internal controls and audit readiness.
  • Office Operations: Ensure all administrative systems run smoothly-from document management and compliance to supporting smooth internal operations. Collaborate with leadership to set and implement policies related to fraud control, anti-corruption, and anti-bribery.
  • Strategy: Act as a key thought partner to senior leadership by translating big-picture goals into models, budgets and financial plans. Help structure CAPEX vs. OPEX effectively. Maintain a ruthless focus on driving down cost-per-learner, and think outside the box to design smarter, leaner ways to deliver impact at scale.

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • CPA (T), ACCA, or equivalent certification from a recognized professional body.
  • 5+ years of experience setting up, improving and managing finance operations and systems.

  • Experience in NGOs accounting is necessary, experience with for profit organizations a plus.

Your Skills

In addition to your department specific technical skills (Finance, Procurement, HR/Admin) that are must haves, at Tanza we value a few shared skills which are outlined in detail in our Leadership Competency Model:

  • Communication: Ability to share and receive information with clarity, care, and humility - while using timely feedback and compelling narratives to inspire and escalate as needed.
