Group Strategist
Our client, a leading transportation, logistics, shipping, healthcare, and mobility services company, is seeking to recruit a highly qualified and experienced professional for the position of Group Strategist.
Reporting directly to the Group Chief Executive Officer, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development, implementation, monitoring, and periodic review of the Group's corporate strategy. Working closely with the Group Chief Executive Officer, Board of Directors, and senior leadership team, the role will drive enterprise-wide strategic planning, market and competitive analysis, business transformation, and strategic project oversight to ensure the Group remains agile, competitive, and aligned with its growth ambitions.
The position will also support the identification of emerging opportunities, risks, and industry trends, providing data-driven insights and recommendations to inform decision-making and enhance sustainable value creation across the Group's diverse portfolio of businesses.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
1. Strategy Formulation and Corporate Planning
- Lead the development and periodic review of the Group’s corporate strategy and annual business plans.
- Coordinate enterprise-wide strategic planning, working closely with the Board, CEO, Executive Management, and head of department to define priorities, targets, and opportunities.
- Drive market, competitive, and economic analysis to identify growth opportunities and inform strategic decision-making.
- Drive the Group’s strategic positioning on sector reforms, sustainability priorities, and emerging business opportunities.
2. Performance Management & Business Intelligence
- Oversee translation of strategies into business plans, KPIs and measurable performance goals across the Group.
- Establish and oversee performance management frameworks, reporting mechanisms, and strategic review processes.
- Monitor execution of strategic initiatives, ensuring accountability, resource alignment, timely delivery, and realization of intended outcomes.
- Prepare strategic performance reports for Executive Management and the Board, highlighting progress, risks, and corrective actions.
- Promote the use of business intelligence, data analytics, and management information systems to support evidence-based decision-making.
3. Bid, Tender & Commercial Management
- Experience in leading bid and tender strategies, consortium development, commercial positioning and pricing strategy as well as capacity to manage contracts, concessions and commercial negotiations.
- Evaluate and recommend new business opportunities, partnerships, investments, acquisitions, concessions, and PPPs that support value creation and expansion.
- Lead the development of strategic business cases, feasibility studies, investment proposals, and major bid strategies.
- Lead strategic engagement with lenders, investors, and partners, including due diligence, performance reporting, and investment communications.
4. Financial Analysis and Investment Appraisal
- Ensure alignment of functional strategies, business plans, budgets, structures, risk frameworks, and performance measures with the Group strategy.

- Ability to develop financial models and evaluate strategic investment opportunities.
5. Business Development & Growth Strategy
- Ability to identify, evaluate and pursue growth opportunities, strategic partnerships, acquisitions and concessions.
- Capacity to develop business cases and investment proposals to support expansion and value creation objectives.
6. Leadership and Organizational Capability Development
- Build and lead a high-performing strategy and performance function, ensuring effective planning, analytics, execution monitoring, and decision support.
- Set performance objectives, coach team members, and drive a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, and data-driven decision-making.
- Support talent management and succession planning to ensure continuity of critical strategic capabilities.
7. Project & Programme Management
- Experience in project and programme management, implementation monitoring and value realization.
- Ability to oversee strategic initiatives and ensure delivery against approved objectives.
8. Governance, Risk and Sustainability
- Ensure strategic initiatives align with governance requirements, enterprise risk management principles, regulatory obligations, and sustainability goals.
- Monitor strategic risks and emerging issues, recommending appropriate mitigation and response measures.
- Support the Board and Executive Committee in reviewing strategic performance, resource allocation, and business transformation priorities.
Academic Qualifications & Experience:
- Master’s degree in business administration, Strategic Management, Finance, Economics and Statistics is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Project Management, or related discipline, from a recognized and accredited institution.
- A relevant professional qualification such as:
- Certified Public Accountant (Tanzania) (CPA (T))
- Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
- Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
- Minimum 10 years’ relevant experience, including 5 years in a senior management or executive role in strategy, planning, business development, transformation, or general management.
- Proven leadership of cross-functional teams, including finance, operations, and risk.
- Experience developing Board-level strategies, business cases, financial models, and leading major bids or strategic projects.
