Main purpose of the role
The Medical Coordinator Support will support the Medical Coordinator through delegated tasks and responsibilities, including administrative tasks related to the coordination of work. The role includes ensuring good relationships with local and national authorities and supporting adequate program management in the projects, in accordance with MSF protocols, medical and paramedical standards, rules of hygiene, and standard precautions. The objective is to ensure quality medical care for patients and communities, as well as improve the health conditions of the targeted population.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities
The Medical Coordinator Support will be responsible for the following duties:
- Monitor, supervise, and evaluate the implementation of medical activities in the project.
- Visit projects according to the preset schedule.
- Participate in defining human resources needs, materials, and technical requirements.
- Assist in the implementation of MSF protocols, medical and paramedical standards, hygiene rules, and universal precautions.
- Assist in collecting information on national health policy through meetings, reports, articles, and other sources.
- Collect and participate in the analysis of epidemiological data from the projects.
- Ensure medical follow-up of patients, including treatment progress and improvement, in collaboration with the medical referent of the health structure.
- Oversee all medical expenses associated with patients, in collaboration with supervisors.
- Organize administrative and medical information, including reports, ongoing treatments, discharge of patients, and return to their homes.
- Support and supervise project teams.
- Participate in the management of the medical team in the capital, including recruitment, training, work monitoring, vacation planning, and assessments.
- Participate in briefings and debriefings of medical and paramedical team members.
- Promote communication and active participation in the development of the project.
- Apply the employee health policy.
- Participate in the evaluation of hospital structures that can serve as reference structures for national and international staff.
- Participate in the medical monitoring of MSF personnel.
- Oversee medical expenses related to consultations and hospitalizations, in collaboration with the line manager.
- Participate in the management of the central pharmacy.
- Advise and guide the logistics team in drug stock management.
- Organize the start-up, inventory, and management of the operational medical library according to the classification plan.
- Participate in data collection and project data management.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
- Organize data archiving and medical reports in the project.
- Perform other duties requested by the Medical Coordinator, including exceptional field team support and participation in evaluations.
Context-specific accountabilities
Staff health
The Medical Coordinator Support will:
- Ensure effective implementation of the local staff health policy by maintaining regular contact with the local medical insurance provider.
- Coordinate with the local medical insurance company on health-related issues raised by staff.
- Provide health briefings to LHS and IMS on the current health context.
- Organize regular meetings with the local insurance company for progress reports.
- Support the organization of medical appointments for IMS where needed.
- Liaise with the pharmacy team to update staff health boxes for houses, offices, and cars.
- Organize annual eye checkups for drivers in all project sites.
- Draft timely outbreak briefs to inform staff about ongoing disease outbreaks and relevant implications for staff health.
- Liaise with the HR department and SHU to update the national health policy for validation.
- Support the Medical Coordinator during MERP.
Archiving
The Medical Coordinator Support will serve as the focal point for the medical department in overseeing the implementation and follow-up of medical file archiving. This includes ensuring compliance with archiving standards, confidentiality requirements, and data protection procedures.
Surveillance
The role includes monitoring public health alerts, verifying relevant information, and communicating validated findings to the medical coordination team to support timely action.

The Medical Coordinator Support will:
- Monitor health changes in the context and update the country health profile.
- Attend external meetings when delegated.
- Participate in Technical Working Groups and share updates and feedback from these meetings.
- Update the key contact list, map changes, and brief new Ministry of Health officials.
- Perform other responsibilities delegated by the Medical Coordinator in line with operational priorities.
Minimum educational qualifications
Applicants must have the following qualifications:
- Medical Doctor Degree.
- Registered Medical Doctor.
Experience required
Applicants should have:
- Training or experience in tropical medicine and/or public health.
- Experience working in a developing country.
- Emergency experience.
- A minimum of two years’ experience.
Knowledge and skills
Applicants should have:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Essential computer literacy, including Word, Excel, and internet use.
Languages
- Mission language is essential.
- Local working language would be an asset.
Required competencies
