Maternity Africa operates from its base at Kivulini Maternity Centre, located outside Arusha in Northern Tanzania.

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Nurse-midwife to join our team. This role involves providing high-standard maternal nursing care to vulnerable pregnant women throughout their antenatal care, delivery, and postnatal periods. You will also be involved in providing treatment and surgeries for birth injuries, including fistula surgeries. The ideal candidate will exhibit professionalism in midwifery, excel in managing obstetric emergencies, and demonstrate respect, compassion, and kindness when interacting with patients. Key Responsibilities

  • Providing comprehensive prenatal and postpartum care for pregnant women.
  • Assisting patients and newborns during labor and delivery.
  • Performing routine gynecological examinations.
  • Educating patients on parenting and family planning.
  • Maintaining accurate patient medical records.
  • Collaborating with other healthcare professionals and referring patients to specialists when needed.
  • Conducting tests and diagnosing various medical conditions.
  • Offering emotional support to expectant and new mothers.
  • Administering vaccinations to children under 5 years old.
  • Providing all types of family planning methods to mothers.
  • Documenting patient care, tutoring student midwives, and identifying high-risk pregnancies.
  • Monitoring and administering medications, injections, and intravenous infusions during labor.
  • Undertaking any other duties as assigned by the organization.

Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies Required

  • A minimum of a Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery.
  • Possession of Nursing and Midwifery registration certificates from the Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council (TNMC).
  • A valid nurse practicing license.
  • A minimum of 3 years of working experience, preferably in a labor ward, RCH (Reproductive and Child Health) unit, or operating theatre.
  • Competence in managing obstetric emergencies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for developing professional relationships with patients.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to practice compassionate care, kindness, and love towards patients.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English and Kiswahili to effectively communicate with patients and explain their options and potential implications.
  • Strong collaborative and teamwork skills to work effectively with other medical care providers.
