About the Programme
In partnership with The MasterCard Foundation, BRAC International (BI) is implementing an initiative aimed at creating a positive and measurable impact for 1.2 million adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) and 9.5 million people across seven countries in East and West Africa. This program addresses the urgent need to support AGYW living in poverty, amplified by the global pandemic, by delivering scalable economic development approaches to foster their agency, voice, aspirations, and sustainable livelihoods.
Position: Program Assistant – Ecd (3 Positions)
Job Location: Dodoma, Mwanza, and Iringa
Purpose of this Job:
The Program Assistant will provide day-to-day supervision to designated Play labs within the ECD project. You will liaise with other project staff and beneficiaries to ensure project objectives are achieved in a timely manner and according to agreed standards. Your responsibilities include the daily supervision of play labs, monitoring children's performance, ensuring the quality of play labs, and quality assurance of the early childhood component, with a focus on equitable learning opportunities for vulnerable children.
Responsibilities:
Community Mobilization and Facilitation
Disseminate project objectives, priorities, and approaches among communities, government, and stakeholders.
Apply participatory approaches to facilitate communities in identifying their own problems and development priorities.
Foster community ownership and participation in play lab projects.
Project Management and Delivery
Oversee the procurement, logistics, and administration of the ECD project in your area, adhering to BRAC policy.
Collaborate with project staff to implement internal control systems and resolve day-to-day field issues.
Ensure effective delivery of project activities according to standards.
Consult closely with street authorities, play lab leaders, children, and BRAC's technical staff during project implementation.
Ensure survey, children selection, play leaders, and play lab house selection meet set criteria.
Maintain children attendance at play labs above 90%.
Organize monthly parent and community meetings at play lab centers.
Ensure play lab materials and equipment are of high quality and well-maintained.
Manage the caseload of enrolled children and ensure their satisfactory performance.
Conduct regular field visits to 100% of play lab centers, documenting and sharing monitoring reports with the Area Manager.
Attend staff meetings and develop monthly refresher modules.
Effectively monitor the work of play leaders.
Oversee the recruitment and development of staff and play leaders.
Appraise the job performance of play leaders.
Coordination, Networking, and Advocacy
Establish strong working relationships with the project team, government, and stakeholders at district and regional levels.
Participate in and organize project and stakeholder meetings.
Enhance self-empowerment of children, parents, and communities.
Engage in effective advocacy with local authorities.
Link children in play lab centers with available surrounding services.
Adhere to high ethical standards and comply with all regulations.
Child Protection
Promote and ensure child rights-based programming.
Abide by internal policies, including the child protection policy.
Ensure mandatory reporting of child abuse cases.
Promote child rights and gender inclusion.
Ensure Child Protection Committees at play lab centers are fully functional.
Ensure all project team members, play lab leaders, parents, and stakeholders are aware of and have access to the child protection policy and their responsibilities.
Reports and Documentation
Develop and submit monthly field progress reports to the Area Manager.
Document project success stories, case studies, best practices, and lessons learned.
Monitor downward accountability to stakeholders, especially children and communities.
Ensure project properties at play lab centers and offices are well-maintained.
Safeguarding
Read, understand, practice, promote, and endorse the safeguarding policy among team members.
Ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in all actions.
Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure for any reportable incident and encourage others to do so.
Required Experience:
At least 1-2 years of practical experience working with NGOs, Education, Early Childhood, Child Protection, or related programs.
Teaching experience in early years is an added advantage.
Experience in Administration and Leadership.
Soft skills such as teamwork, communication, and flexibility.
Basic knowledge of monitoring and evaluation.
Knowledge of the Tanzanian education system, particularly early learning opportunities, government policies, departments, and institutions.
Skills and Competencies:
Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Care and Development, Education Management, Sociology, Social Work, Development Studies, or Community Development.
