JOB SUMMARY

CARE will be implementing the two years’ Help Her Live, Learn and Earn Programme (HELP) in Same District with the aim to achieve enhanced food and nutrition security for households dependent on small-scale agriculture within a changing climate in northern Tanzania. It has been designed to practically create equitable and climate resilient rural communities in Same District, Kilimanjaro, where women are empowered, natural resources are sustainably managed, and households have increased agriculture production and incomes.

CARE International is seeking a Programme Coordinator who will provide overall leadership, coordination and management of the programme, and will be responsible for ensuring successful delivery and accomplishment of the programme’s core objectives under his/her responsibility. The position will be responsible for strategic decision making around day-to-day activities, working with partners – Civil society Organisations (CSOs) and Same District government actors, and interaction with the wider HELP stakeholders in Climate resilience, operating across Tanzania.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED

EDUCATION:

  • Masters’ Degree in sustainable agriculture, natural resources management, climate change adaptation and other, relevant field or equivalent combination of education and related work experience;

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least three years’ experience in project management
  • Experience working in, or delivering, resilient agriculture, economic development, food & nutrition security and community-based climate adaptation
  • Line management experience, with previous responsibility for staff, resources, and contracts;
  • Experience working within, and ideally leading, a consortium of partners
  • Experience working with evidence-based advocacy and influencing policies with allies

Desired

  • Agriculture Value Chain experience, preferably vegetables and maize or sunflower
  • Water harvesting and management for small-scale agriculture

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Required

  • Demonstrated strategic planning, organizational and project management skills
  • Financial management
  • Excellent report-writing and communication
  • Monitoring, evaluation and learning skills
  • Strong partnership working experience, including external and internal team-building
  • Competent in computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • A firm belief in teamwork, gender equality, sensitivity to disability, HIV/AIDS and participatory approach and sustainable development.

  • Fundraising and facilitation skills
