About the Programme

 

The WFP (World Food Programme) has awarded BRAC Maendeleo Tanzania with a Smallholder Sorghum and Sunflower Development Project locally named Vijana Kilimo Biashara (VKB) to be implemented in Simiyu region addressing the challenges facing the smallholder farmers in sorghum and sunflower value chains. Specifically, the project will be implemented in 2 districts of Meatu and Maswa (Simiyu). The project anticipates reaching a total of 15,000 people including young people and adult farmers.

 

In preparation for the launch, BRAC International is seeking applications from competent, dynamic and self- motivated individuals to fill the following position in BRAC Maendeleo Tanzania

 

Project Officer - 2 positions

The Agriculture Project Officer will support on the planning and implementation of the Smallholder Sorghum and Sunflower Development Project including establishment of partnerships with local NGOs, Farmer organizations, farmer cooperatives and government stakeholders.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support implementing partners in establishing and functionalizing marketing groups of smallholders farmers
  • In coordination with implementing partners establish and functionalize agro dealers and provide business skill training for private service providers.
  • Support the coordination and implementation of all assigned project activities as outlined in the implementation plan and annual plans in line with VKB program quality principles and standards, donor requirements, and good practices.
  • Monitor and report any challenges and/or gaps identified to inform adjustments to plans and implementation schedules.
  • Assist partners and Project Implementation Team in their efforts to reflect on project experience.
  • Support collaboration, integration, and accountability between VKB underlying ToC and with external stakeholders through coordinating project evaluation activities and assisting partners to collect and analyze project data per specified mechanisms and tools.
  • Collaborate with local partner(s) to prepare reports per established reporting schedule.
  • Complete project documentation for assigned activities. Assist with identifying information for case studies and reports on promising practices.
  • Consider gender integration in targeting, planning, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of activities.
  • Provide technical support for the establishment and functionality of livelihoods groups’ livelihoods pathway selection, IGA groups and business plan development.
  • Closely support implementing partners in implementation and follow up of agricultural response geared to helping households improve nutrition and strengthen farming system resilience.
  • Coordinate field-based impact assessment for post-harvest assessments.
  • proactively work with project manager and country teams to participate in fundraising initiatives, donor identification/mapping, engagement and designing project proposal to create strong pipeline.

Safeguarding Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety of team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment, and exploitation to achieve the programmer’s goals on safeguarding implementation.
  • Act as a key source of support, guidance, and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.
  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do the same.

 

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

- Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural economics and Agribusiness, Applied Agricultural Extension, General Agriculture or any related fields.

 

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Training, facilitation and report writing skills;
  • Excellent in events planning and organizing skills;
  • Monitoring and evaluation skills;
  • High degree of working/managing consortium.
  • Awareness and sensitivity regarding gender issues

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

2+ Years working experience training facilitation of farmers on agronomic practices, Implementing and managing programmes with many stakeholders, delivering in challenging contexts to deadline.

 

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: CONTRACTUAL
