Senior Recovery Officer

Job Summary

The Senior Recovery Officer will be responsible for managing defaulted borrowers by devising strategies to ensure maximum recoveries and collections. This role aims to ensure that recovery actions are timely and cost-effective to maximize bank profit. The officer will work closely with business, legal teams, and other stakeholders to improve recovery rates and provide feedback for continuous improvement.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Review customers' cases and devise strategies to maximize loan collection.
• Advise supervisor and/or bank management on the best recovery strategies.
• Review and visit collaterals for defaulted customers and strategize recovery actions for each collateral/customer.
• Institute recovery action on all defaulted accounts as and when required.
• Ensure timely and adequate actioning of all accounts in line with the recovery strategy to maximize recoveries and meet agreed targets.
• Develop recovery actions for each account in the portfolio and follow up on implementation to ensure maximum recovery in line with the bank's budget/target.
• Identify accounts with settlement and follow laid procedures to ensure settlement is reached.
• Mentor and supervise junior staff.
• Ensure recovery actions comply with bank policies, procedures, and governing laws.
• Follow up with external collection agents (Auctioneers/Debt Collectors) to ensure fulfillment of assigned duties.
• Provide weekly and monthly reports on recovery progress, projections, and the number of recoveries made within the specified time.

• Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and supervisory requirements to protect the bank's reputation and avoid legal action/sanctions or consequential losses.
• Adhere to Bank policies and procedures.
• Timely refer all insurance claims, retrenchments, disabilities, deceased, insolvencies, tracing matters, investigation matters, and recommended repossession actions to the supervisor.
