Vacancy Notice No: TANKS/VN/18/003Position Title: Assistant Protection Officer(SGBV)Category: National OfficerPosition Number: 10028285Duty Station: KasuluRemuneration: Attractive Salary(NOA Level) and entitlements according to UN Staff Rules and RegulationsDuration: One year Contract with possibility of extensionEffective date: ImmediatelyDuties and ResponsibilitiesUnder the direct supervision of the Protection Officer, the incumbent will perform the following duties:AuthorityThe Protection(SGBV) Population of concern is met  through the application of international and national laws, relevant UN/UNHCR protection standards, and IASC principlesSGBV Protection activities are guided by the protection strategy and respect the policy of UNHCR on age, gender, and diversity(AGD).The participation of persons of concern is assured through continuous assessment and evaluation using participatory, rights and community-based approachesProtection incidents are immediately identified and addressedSGBV data collectionResponsibilityAssist the office to conduct regular monitoring, needs/gaps, and capacity assessments on SGBV in close coordination with any on-going joint/common assessments being conducted during all phases of displacement;Assist to integrate SGBV prevention and response in humanitarian action plans and into national systems with a focus on ensuring continuity and sustainabilityAssist in the development of an SGBV strategy and programs in partnership with protection and programme leads in the country operation as part of the overall protection strategy, with particular emphasis on linkages with child protection using he Results framework and focus in close collaboration with Programme and different sectors.Establish/strengthen and assist in SGBV coordination mechanisms and represent in inter-agencyAssist in establishing and/or strengthen strategic and innovative partnerships for SGBV both with community-based, local, national, and international organizations, with a focus on ensuring continuity and sustainabilityProvide support in mapping existing services to address SGBV in the Various affected areas, including identifying community capacities and structures for potential partnershipAssist in strengthening  core referral mechanism for response services through the consultative development of basic standard operating Procedures(SOPs) and SGBV strategy that is entrenched in the comprehensive emergency protection frameworkSupport in Identification processes of potential partners and coordinate with Programme and Protection sections to integrate SGBV risk mitigation, prevention and response programming in sub-agreements;Participate in monitor SGBV programs implemented by UNHCR and partners (both implementing and operations) and adjust programming as requiredSupport the integration of SGBV risk mitigation, prevention and response into the role of UNHCR staff across all sectorsSupport to ensure that addressing SGBV  includes measures for protection from sexual exploitation and abuse(PSEA) in compliance with UNHCR’s code of conductEssential and Desirable minimum requirementsUndergraduate degree(equivalent of a BA/BS) in International Law, Human Rights, International Development, International Relations, Anthropology,  social work, gender studies, political or social science or other clearly related disciplines + minimum 2 years of previous experience relevant to the function. graduate degree(equivalent of a Master’s) or Doctorate degree(equivalent of a PhD) may also be acceptedStrong experience in interaction with and building partnerships and synergies with UN agencies, NGOs and civil society organizationsFluency in English and knowledge of Kiswahili is an added advantageApplicant should include the recent curriculum vitae or United Nations Personal History Form(p-11), contact telephone number/E-mail, and reference to the vacancy Notice Number TANKS/VN/18/003Applications for this post should be sent by email only to the head of field office Kasulu, email: tanksva@unhcr.org
