About the Role
The Commercial Manager is responsible for providing strategic and operational commercial leadership across multiple companies, departments, and operational sites. The role ensures effective commercial performance, sound project financial management, contract oversight, and full compliance with Tanzanian financial and labour legislation. The position supports profitable growth, strong governance, and operational sustainability across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial and Financial Management
Oversee commercial operations across multiple companies, departments, and operational sites.
Develop and implement commercial strategies to improve profitability and cost efficiency.
Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance monitoring across business units.
Review and approve pricing structures, commercial proposals, tenders, and contracts.
Project Financial Management
Provide commercial oversight from tender stage through project execution to close-out.
Monitor project costs, revenues, cash flow, margins, variations, and claims.
Identify and mitigate commercial and financial risks on projects.
Ensure accurate and timely project financial reporting.
Statutory, Legal & Labour Compliance
Ensure compliance with Tanzanian tax and financial legislation, including VAT, PAYE, and Withholding Taxes.
Ensure accurate and timely statutory payments (NSSF, NHIF, SDL, WCF).
Ensure compliance with Tanzanian Labour Laws, including employment contracts, disciplinary processes, and terminations.
Support audits and engagements with auditors, tax authorities, and regulators.
Leadership and Reporting
Lead, mentor, and develop commercial, finance, and administrative teams.
Work closely with Operations, HR, Procurement, and Senior Management.
Prepare accurate management, commercial, and financial reports for decision-making.
Experience & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Commerce, Business Administration, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline.
Professional qualification (CPA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) is highly desirable.
Minimum ten (10) years’ proven experience in a senior commercial or financial management role.
Proven experience overseeing multiple companies, departments, and operational sites.
Demonstrated experience in project financial management, commercial contracts, and cost control.
Strong working knowledge of Tanzanian financial regulations and labour laws.
Experience in multi-site operational, construction, engineering, logistics, or similar environments is an added advantage.
Skills
Strong commercial and financial acumen.
Advanced budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis skills.
Sound knowledge of Tanzanian statutory and tax requirements (TRA, VAT, PAYE, NSSF, NHIF, SDL, WCF).
Strong leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
