Role Description
Manage the Group Operations and Finances by directing and coordinating activities consistent with established goals, objectives and policies. Plans and directs all aspects of the Group’s operational policies, objectives and initiatives. Assumes responsibility for the attainment of short and long-term financial and operational goals and oversees Group Finances.
Responsibilities
Work closely with existing GM’s of existing Opcos to best manage their operations and finances
Ensure that Group financial reporting is complete and accurate
Manages the annual budget process
Achieve measurable growth of existing operational businesses
Manage HR division
Add value to existing businesses through new product development and creative “out of the box ideas”
Expand existing businesses through mergers and acquisitions
Make decisions regarding disposal of non-performing assets and ultimate disposal thereof
Unlock value of existing assets such as undeveloped land
Raise finance for existing projects
Develop business plans for existing and new projects
Identify new business opportunities in the areas of energy, mining, agriculture and commodity trading
Liaise closely with Business Development Director on any new ventures
Development of existing GM’s in terms of leadership skills, business skills, financial skills etc.
Provides overall leadership and supervision to operational teams, directly managing and coordinating direct reports in each country or division
Advises the Chairman on strategic business development and key corporate planning issues and makes recommendations on major business decisions
Prepares a monthly report for the Chairman keeping him abreast of business activities, potential threats, opportunities and recommends action items
Does quarterly evaluations jointly with the GM’s on their respective Business Units and ensures that any actions taken have been consistent with the Group’s overall business plan and strategy which will lead to improved performance
Sets annual goals in partnership with Exco. Identifies, manages and grows strategic relationships with affiliate organizations and identifies target organizations for acquisitions and mergers
Oversees the strategic shaping, influencing and delivery of new and existing physical infrastructures and development within the regions, utilizing mergers to deliver sustainable growth and competitiveness
Identifies new business opportunities for the Group or divisions within the Group
Creates in conjunction with the Group Finance Manager, business plans, Group Profiles, annual operation plans and budgets
Ensures compliance with appropriate legal and accounting norms in conjunction with the Group FM
Manages and continually enhances performance management platforms
Displays a tenacious work ethic and a sense of urgency in solving problems
Utilises excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
Ensures the smooth operation of the organisation, delivering optimum performance from all its resources to enable the organisation to deliver its agenda most effectively
Makes a significant contribution at a strategic and operational level to the corporate leadership of the Organisation, being an ambassador of corporate values, a role model to leadership groups and a key partner of the Chairman
Leads proactively, driving all interventions necessary and incorporating all external influences and periodic reviews to ensure the Organisation is shaped to deliver effectively
Oversees business planning, budgeting and performance management systems and processes
Develops and maintains an effective best practice system, structures and procedures to ensure that projects and evaluations are carried out effectively
Develops systems and infrastructure which enable effective knowledge and relationship management
Drives in conjunction with the Group Financial Manager, the development, implementation and evaluation of HR solutions that ensures that the organisation operates in a fair, open and equal manner, underpinned by corporate values to deliver overall business goals
Ensures the continuous improvement across the Organisation to ensure that all aspects of the various operations add value to the achievement of the Organisational aims and objectives
Creates in conjunction with the Chairman a capital investment plan for the Organisation
Makes a significant and pro-active contribution together with the Chairman, in corporate policy making and operational management of the Organisation across a broad range of agendas to ensure prompt delivery of client needs
Leads cultural and organisational development and the resulting change management activity in order to ensure that the Organisation has the capacity and capability to deliver Corporate Strategy
Defines in consultation with the GM’s an annual cost reduction program and forwards the same to the Chairman, at commencement of each financial year
As part of Exco, oversees the strategic development and maintenance of relationships with both internal and external partnerships
Formulates and develops 3 year plans and business strategies for the Group
Mentors and coaches Business Unit GM’s on ways to improve their leadership and management skills to assist in the review / evaluations of their direct reports
Conducts bi-annual performance appraisals with the assistance of all GM’s and provides feedback to both the GM’s and Chairman on performance levels and gaps
Requirements
A relevant finance degree
CA/ACCA/CPA/MBA preferred
Entrepreneurial skills
Experience in Africa and specifically East Africa
Growth and expansion of existing business
Financial management, budgeting and forecasting and treasury management
Marketing and communications industry
Business management
Identification and analysis of investment opportunities
Mergers and acquisitions

Must be prepared to travel
5 years’ financial management experience
6 years’ general operational management experience
Salary
$5,000 - $6,000 per month (subject to experience)
Preference given to an expat able to relocate to Dar es Salaam or currently living in Dar es Salaam. Relocation and initial housing costs will be covered as well as a limited number of return flights during the year.
