Job Position: ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER
Job Description
Qualification required: Bachelor’s Degree in environmental engineering or equivalent.Minimum experience: Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience (at least 3 on site) in function involving environmental studies and impact mitigations in Tanzania in mining, construction, O&G sectors. International environment experience would be a plusAccountabilities: Ensure the link with government agencies and authorities as required, collaborate with Uganda team in order to harmonize the ESIA induced mitigation measure in both countries and support company’s management in understanding data requirements for environmental issues.
Responsibilities:
Manage contractors undertaking ESIAs and ensure that they execute their roles efficiently.
Ensure the required studies are performed to fully consider and understand the potential effects associated with this project developed.
Ensure timely delivery of assigned environmental studies on time and budget.
Provide specialist advice in impact assessment on environmental matters in order that the COMPANY can demonstrate sound environment management, ensure legal compliance and minimize the potential for litigation or damage to the Company’s reputation.
Ensure mitigation of the negative impacts of organization activities on the environment.
Identify unanticipated negative impacts and communicate these to the COMPANY REPRESENTATIVE.
Be up to date with local perceptions of organization environment performance and anticipate risks.
Ensure that contractors act responsibly according to their contractual responsibilities.
Monitor organization environment performance against key indicators.
Ensure organization permitting requirements are met for legal compliance.
Work in collaboration with the Ugandan teams (midstream but also upstream) towards a coherent and harmonized approach in safeguarding the ESIA recommendations.
Requirements:
Highly available, autonomous and able to travel to remote areas in Tanzania and Uganda.
Sense of responsibility and dependability with good communication and observation skills
Ability to work within a project team
