Qualification Level: BachelorExperience Level: Entry levelExperience Length: 1 yearJob DescriptionREF: UTA- TZ18-R4D-001-NRS-ARThe Field Assistant will perform the following duties, among others:Pollinate banana bunchesExtract banana seedsDesign, plant and maintain banana fields (irrigation, manuring, pesticide application)Supervise casual laborers working in the fieldOversee bunch harvesting, ripening and seed extractionEnsure timely delivery of seeds to the tissue culture labDescribe banana varietiesTransplant in vitro plants into the nursery and maintain the nurseryMaintain excellent breeding recordsReport findings orally and in writingBe responsible for the maintenance of field equipmentMaintain stocks of chemicals for field researchAssist administration for import and export of plant materialOther official duties as assigned by the banana breederRequired Qualifications and ExperienceBSc in Agronomy or Plant Pathology or Plant Physiology or Breeding or related discipline with at least 1 years’ experienceMust be able to work independently with minimal supervision, but also participate as a team member in accomplishment of duties,Strong attention to detailA positive attitudePossess excellent interpersonal and communication skills in EnglishAbility to work in a multi-cultural environmentThe ability to work independently and as a team memberGeneral information:The initial period for this position is one and half years with a possibility of renewal.
