General Manager – Mining & Quarry Operations
INDUSTRY: CONSTRUCTION
HR World Limited, on behalf of our client, is seeking an experienced and strategic General Manager – Mining & Quarry Operations to provide overall operational, commercial, and strategic leadership across mining and quarry activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving safety, production, financial performance, client relationships, operational improvement, and long-term sustainability.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide overall leadership for mining and quarry activities, including drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, crushing, and limestone quality management.
Deliver agreed production, safety, operational, and financial targets.
Lead visible field engagement and develop a proactive safety culture across the operation.
Chair significant incident investigations and ensure effective implementation of corrective actions.
Improve operational discipline, equipment utilisation, productivity, and overall operational efficiency.
Develop annual budgets, forecasts, and cost optimisation initiatives.
Act as the principal interface between company ownership, site management, and client leadership.
Lead operational review meetings and ensure contractual obligations and performance requirements are achieved.
Represent ownership on site and provide independent verification of operational information.
Prepare accurate and transparent weekly and monthly reports covering production, financial performance, HSE, equipment performance, strategic risks, and human resources.
Escalate significant operational risks, challenges, and opportunities in a timely manner.
Improve transparency in operational reporting, decision-making, and performance management.
Lead the implementation of reporting automation, digital systems, and operational improvement initiatives.
Support the implementation of technology initiatives, including dashboards, KPI reporting systems, and operational data management tools.
Develop, mentor, and strengthen local management teams and establish effective long-term succession plans.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Degree in Mining Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Postgraduate qualifications and relevant professional memberships will be an added advantage.
Minimum of 15 years of experience in mining or quarry operations.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in senior operational leadership positions.
Significant experience in limestone quarrying, cement operations, aggregates, or large open-pit mining environments.
Strong commercial, financial, and contractual management experience.
Proven experience dealing directly with executive management and Board-level stakeholders.
Experience working in Africa and expatriate environments will be highly desirable.
