Currently, the bank is seeking additional talent to serve in the role outlined below
Head of Legal
Reporting to the managing director, the role holder is responsible for effective and efficient management of the legal department, providing legal advisory services and ensuring effective management of legal and contractual risks. This is a leadership role which is expected to ensure efficient and effective management of staff and resources in the legal department. The roll holder is expected to lead the legal department as a strategic function that delivers practical, proactive, timely and relevant legal services in response to a broad range of complex business matters of significant strategies and financial value and to provide solutions to manage the risks.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Review and draft contracts, agreements, manage litigation, labour issues as well as internal policies and ensure that they are in compliance with all statutory and legal requirements
Provide continuous leadership, supervision, training and development of staff and ensuring an effective and motivated team
Define the strategic direction for the legal function within the bank
Anticipate changes in the legal and business landscape
Managed legal aspects of equity banks business operations in a complex and competitive market
Develop and maintain and network of external counsel
Recommend improvement and policy changes as required
Proactive strategic support to business and new projects particular
Candidate’s Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
A degree in law from a recognised university
An advocate of the high court of Tanzania with at least 10 years post admission experience
Experience in handling complex legal issues and strategic leadership in projects
Excellent interpersonal and networking skills with capability of managing external environment and exposures in representing in industry bodies as required
Desired Competencies
Excellent interpersonal and networking skills
Demonstration of leadership and development skills
Team player and team developer
Customer focused, goal oriented with strategic business sense
Adaptable to organisational changes
Ability to work under pressure and willing set deadlines
