Job Title: Head of Payments
Y9 is integrating technology to enable business growth and prosperity with innovative products and services delivered in a very localized manner. Y9 has also partnered with the right go-to-market partners like mobile network operators, government institutions, businesses, and other organizations. Y9 is a fully stacked and regulated, loan giving digital microfinance provider which leverages Artificial intelligence, Machine Learning enabled with a subscription model offering.
In such a fast paced environment with a growing customer base, a head of payments is critical for the efficient delivery of service conveniently. The individual once selected will be responsible for:
Responsibilities:
Strategize and formulate product plans, effectively presenting innovative ideas to key stakeholders.
Efficiently handle multiple partnerships with payment gateway providers, ensuring seamless management and coordination.
Articulate and define product features aligned with the product roadmap, ensuring clear direction and objective setting.
Act as the primary liaison between cross-functional teams and stakeholders, fostering effective communication and collaboration.
Supervise and oversee all aspects of product development, including meticulous design and development stages.
Continuously enhance and refine the product through iterative processes, guaranteeing optimal performance prior to launch.
Keep stakeholders and customers well-informed about the product's progress and updates, ensuring transparency and satisfaction.
Strategically schedule and lead meetings to identify and address issues promptly, effectively driving project resolutions.
Coordinate the seamless integration of various competitive payment instruments onto the payment platform.
Collaborate closely with the vendor partner team, ensuring swift resolution of system issues and tickets without hampering productivity.
Possess in-depth knowledge of the requirements of banking, deposits, merchant, and payment service providers, catering to diverse consumer and merchant segments.
Foster productive collaborations with technical and business teams, leveraging expertise in APIs and software development to drive success.
Take charge of payment gateways, merchant onboarding, product ownership, and merchant management.
Provide valuable expertise in discussing global payment trends and payment regulations with internal stakeholders, contributing to informed decision-making processes.
Key Competencies:
Possess a minimum of 10 years of comprehensive work experience in financial product ownership or a comparable role, showcasing a deep understanding of the field.
Must have led a team on a payments product from ideation to rollout.
Leverage extensive experience in the financial industry, encompassing various aspects such as banking, deposits, cards, and retail, providing a comprehensive perspective.
Demonstrating having worked with multi-faceted technical teams in different geographical locations with exposure to banking systems, mobile money wallets, or fintech vendors is an added advantage.
Showcase expertise and familiarity with cross-border and real-time payments, including SWIFT, further enhancing your knowledge base.
Demonstrate a strong track record of involvement in financial services-related projects/products, particularly within banks or software companies.
Exhibit a proven sense of responsibility and a track record of delivering results swiftly, ensuring efficient project execution.
Excel in communication skills, adeptly articulating and documenting technical and functional specifications with clarity and precision.
Demonstrate exceptional adaptability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously while navigating shifting priorities effectively.
Requirements:
Education: bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
Prior work experience dealing with payment gateways, merchant onboarding, product ownership, and merchant management, core banking and mobile banking platforms.
Strong knowledge of software testing principles, methodologies, and APIs.
Proficiency in various testing methods and tools for applications.
Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with programming languages such as Java, C#, Python, or JavaScript. Understanding of web technologies, APIs, databases, and operating systems.
