Political instability in Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo has caused a large number of refugees to seek sanctuary in Tanzania, and as of May 2017, Tanzania is hosting about 240,000 Burundian refugees. To respond to this situation, NRC opened an operational office in Kibondo, North-Western Tanzania in November 2016 and became Implementing Partner with UNHCR from 1st May 2017 for Camp Management and WASH in Nyarugusu Refugee Camp.

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is recruiting an ICT Assistant who will assist in the day to day implementation of ICT technical support functions and responsibilities at the NRC Tanzania Area Office, ensuring that the ICT set up supports effective programme implementation.
 

Job description
Generic responsibilities

Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
Assist with the implementation of the support function portfolio according to plan of action
Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
Ensure proper filing of documents
Promote and share ideas for improvement of the support function
Assist in undertaking inventorying of ICT equipment
Provide support to users on ICT related daily problem and network/system problem solving
Conduct periodic and scheduled preventive maintenance of hardware
Assists with ensuring all the ICT service contracts are up to date and stored both physically and online.

Specific Responsibilities

Support on the establishment/enhancement of wireless connectivity at the Area Office and Field Office sites;
Day-to-day troubleshooting of ICT problems in the Area Office and Field Office sites;
Oversee the interfacing of printers, photocopying, fax machines with computer network;
Responsible to monitor functioning of equipment to ensure system operates in conformance with specifications;
Ensure that all computers on the Network, including visitors’ are free from viruses and other bugs;
Follow up on all scheduled Hardware services and maintenance as per the set timetable, confirming satisfactory completion after each exercise;
Maintain the database of ICT equipment and ensure that all equipment’s released are correctly endorsed to the user and update the register regularly;
Liaise with the Regional ICT Advisor on the roll out new ICT initiatives;
Conduct training on ICT skills for NRC Tanzania Staff; and
Any other ICT related tasks as delegated by the Area Manager or Area Support Manager.



Qualifications

Experience from working as an ICT Assistant, preferably in a humanitarian/recovery context
Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
Fluency in English, both written and verbal
Good knowledge of, and experience in computer hardware installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and repairs;
Good knowledge of Internet technologies (TCP/IP protocol suite, as well as voice-over-IP, Internet routing and Internet security); and
Excellent knowledge of office automation software (Microsoft Office Suite-2016).
