Materials Engineer
SMEC is looking for a qualified and experienced Materials Engineer who will ensure the quality of all materials to be incorporated in the works of a road/infrastructure contract and that the completed works conform to the contract specifications.
Duties
The duties of the engineer will entail:
General supervision of works;
Overseeing laboratory and field testing of the contractor’s work;
Quality control;
Preparing the Quality Control Plan as part of the supervision manual;
Transferring knowledge;
Preparation of project soils/materials reports upon completion of the works; and
Other duties as directed by the Resident Engineer.
The Selection Criteria:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a high level of experience in supervision of road/infrastructure contracts as a materials/geotechnical engineer. He/she will have:
A BSc. Degree in Civil / Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent and should be registered with the relevant professional bodies.
Post-graduate qualifications in geotechnical/ highway/civil engineering will be an added advantage.
A minimum of ten years’ post-qualification working experience in the relevant field.
At least three years’ experience as a Materials Engineer for infrastructure projects.
The Materials Engineer should have worked as a materials engineer in at least two construction supervision transport projects in the last five years.
