Job Summary
The goal of Switzerland’s international cooperation is the reduction of poverty. In Tanzania, the programmatic focus is on Health, Employment & Income and Governance with a budget of approx.25 Mio Swiss francs per year. In order to strengthen our health team, we are currently looking for a highly experienced national project officer whose creativity will allow the forging of partnerships that deliver interventions in support of human development in Tanzania.
Responsibility:
The NPO will manage health projects independently (75% work time). This implies first line responsibility for all tasks related to project cycle management, participation in technical and policy dialogue with sector stakeholders in order to share project learnings in support of overall sector dialogue.
The NPO will be first line responsible (25% work time) to create operational partnerships between internal programs (HQ and Embassy) and with external likeminded partners to address crosscutting themes such as urbanization, innovation, climate change, gender and gender based violence and HIV/AIDS.
Requirements:
General
Preferably Tanzanian
No criminal record
Education
University degree in development studies, international relations, social sciences, economics or public health
Relevant postgraduate degree is an added advantage
Experience
Minimum requirements:
At least 7 years work experience in development relevant sectors, public or private, in Tanzania or COMESA countries
Documented progressive responsibilities in project management
Documented competency in PCM for at least 7 years
Verifiable good reputation and experience in partnership building and active networking in support of human development
The following work experience represents a strong advantage
Documented experienced in working in other sectors than health, in public or private entities
Documented work on innovation, urbanization, climate change, gender equity, gender based violence, HIV/AIDS
Skills
Excellent level of reading comprehension and writing skills in English
Fluency in Kiswahili (written and spoken)
Deep understanding of Tanzania’s national development plan and its political economy
Extensive professional network in development and health
Good communicator and public speaker
Documented ability to write concise reports and articles
Able to provide critical thoughts and solutions to enhancing program efficiency
Able to work independently and as team member
Strong social competences and uncompromising ethical values
Able to meet deadlines while remaining organized and accurate
Excellent IT skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and understanding of use of social media
Able to travel domestically to project sites for periods up to 2 weeks
