Position Description
North Mara Gold Mine Limited is seeking to recruit a senior engagement Officer to join and grow the CR team. You will be expected to align to Barrick’s DNA and to operate within our mining assets with our Best People Teams. You will contribute in a safe and cost-effective manner to achieve targets in accordance with Mine Safety Standards, Policies and Procedures and ensure daily targets are met. 
About North Mara
The North Mara Gold Mine is located at North-West Tanzania in Tarime District of the Mara Region. It is situated around 100 Kilometres East of Lake Victoria and 20 Kilometres South of the Kenyan border. North Mara started commercial production in 2002. The mine is a combined open pit and underground operation from two deposits, Gokona (underground) and Nyabirama (open pit). 
Responsibilities

Review the Stakeholders analysis and update the annual Stakeholders  Engagement Plan
Identifying social risks and opportunities for the business
Effectively manage interfaces between departments and sections – e.g.  security, safety and environment 
Maintain good collaboration with stakeholders such as local communities, authorities, relevant government departments and within Barrick.
Liaise with key external stakeholders including Local Government stakeholders, Civil society, media and traditional community leaders 
Initiate strategic and innovative engagements 
Partner with suitable organizations in order to address the real, long term development needs of the local communities 
Brainstorming potential partnerships or methods for engagement with the local communities
Maintaining an effective calendar of events and working closely with partners to plan and execute various community events.
Contribute to creating communication messages to address critical challenges in the community
 Monitor the context and emerging trends and develop appropriate systems of identify critical issues affecting the mine operations 
Contributing to departmental efforts to meet the overall business objectives

Qualification requirements

Bachelor Degree or Postgraduate Degree in Social Sciences, economics, community development, mass communication or equivalent disciplines

Experience and Competencies needed

Knowledge of basic laws, policies and procedures of the mining sector 
Preferably, 5 years’ minimum experience in community engagement or outreach initiatives 
Must have demonstrable experience in dispute/conflict resolution and social negotiation skills 
Strong verbal and written communication skills including knowledge of English and Swahili are essential.
Excellent interpersonal communications and coordination skills and proven ability to work constructively with a variety of stakeholders to achieve common goals.
Sound organizational skills and ability to prioritize and deliver assignments in a timely manner often under severe time pressures.
Ability to work under pressure and work extra hours when required.
Effective interpersonal skills under all types of conditions, exhibiting a supportive, positive approach. 
Demonstrates a high degree of personal initiative with good planning and organizational skills.
