Job Summary
Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) is looking for a highly motivated and skilled expert Senior Research Scientist with a PhD in molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, parasitology, vector biology or a related field. The role will be based at IHI Bagamoyo Branch, the position requires strong expertise in molecular biology and vector biology, with proven leadership in managing molecular and entomological activities. The selected candidate will contribute to the global T0 project, a cutting-edge research program working to develop innovative genetic biocontrol tools to stop malaria transmission in Africa. This role will focus on managing and integrating molecular biology and vector biology workflows to ensure quality, capacity building, and impactful contributions to malaria control and elimination
Responsibilities

Mandatory compliance with biosafety and ethical protocols within molecular and entomology facilities
Contribute to execution of genetic manipulations, including design of DNA constructs through gene editing applications such as CRISPR-Cas9 technology
Lead and manage major molecular biology and vector biology activities in the project
Oversee comprehensive laboratory experiments involving DNA, RNA, protein analyses
Manage vector biology studies including, insecticide resistance assays, vector competence evaluations and population genetics
Supervise and coordinate microinjections, screening, and characterization of gene-edited mosquito samples
Coordinate optimization of experimental protocols, quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures and maintenance of laboratory equipment
Ensure accurate and detailed records of experiments, entomological sampling, and molecular results
Supervise, mentor, and train junior scientists, technicians, and field assistants in molecular and vector biology methods
Engage in literature reviews and contribute to manuscripts, reports, and presentations for scientific publication
Represent the project in conferences, meetings, workshops, and collaborations with external partners and stakeholders
