Archive Manager

Location: Dar es Salaam

Responsibilities:

• Manage the acquisition, accessioning, cataloging, and processing of archival materials.
• Implement best practices for the preservation and conservation of archival materials, including proper storage, handling, and environmental control.
• Develop and maintain descriptive metadata for archival collections, ensuring accurate and consistent access points for researchers.
• Provide reference services to internal and external researchers, including answering inquiries, retrieving materials, and facilitating access to collections.
• Oversee digitization initiatives to increase access to archival materials, including planning, prioritization, and quality control.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to promote the use of archival materials through exhibitions, educational programs, and outreach activities.
• Develop and implement policies and procedures related to the management, preservation, and access of archival materials.
• Supervise archival staff, interns, and volunteers, providing guidance and support in their work.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in library science, Archival Studies, History, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience working in an archival setting, with knowledge of archival principles, standards, and best practices.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Familiarity with archival management software and digitization tools.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
